I just put mine straight in the slow cooker. Sometimes I put some lemon or garlic in it other times nothing at all. You don't need to put any liquid in. It will come out with at least an inch of liquid at the bottom, in my opinion it is the best way to cook a chicken!

Well it's in now ... if im lucky it won't give me food poisioning :)

No i don't put any water in. I have tried it that way but prefer it without.
  • I just throw it in and hope for the best......then later try to get it out and it breaks into lovely soft bits! yummy!!!

This is a question I've been meaning to ask for a while, so thank you!

I've got a Morphy Richards 6.5l - I assume that provided the chicken fits, I can go ahead no probs. What I wondered about though, is can I cook it on low and if so can I just leave it all day like I would a stew?

answer should be in here for you

Ive never done it myself so pointing you towards the experts :D ., If it was me I would guess (from all my reading), put the pots and carrot at bottom as they are hardest to cook and take longest, and i would do all at same time.

Heres a chicken on the bone thread - different SC thread (im cooking chicken drumsticks tonight for first time too!)

Hi Aeshna, I have a Morphy Richards and it's brilliant. I put a large chicken in without any water usually and leave it on low. I usually have it on for about seven or eight hours but would think it would be okay for longer.

I have another question though about the cooking liquid and veg other people have been putting in. Do you use this as it is always very greasy? I have made gravey out of the stock when I have slowcooked beef but always through the chicken 'fat' away. Don't want to be missing out on anything, so advise gratefully received.

I'll merge this thread to that one to keep ideas together ;)

I don't use a SC but I do pot-roast whole chicken in the Rayburn - I add the potatoes about an hour before the chicken is done.
