IF coffee grounds ARE a deterrent you can get them, in quite generous amounts, for free from your local costa/cafe Nero/Starbucks (whatever) jusat ask for coffee grounds for a compost bin andb they wil give you LOADS

and as a 2 cat owner living next to a country park frequented by dog owners some of whom have BIG dogs who leave BIG DOG 'JOBBIES' - dogs do !!!! where they want and the owners don't always clean it up PLUS we have had authenticated stories of Akita owners who have NOT been able to prevent their dogattacking and maiming/killing smaller dogs. And when you think what the vets charge...

Never heard a story of a CAT kiling a smaller cat or a child...

My neighbour (because I have now asked) says the cat she's trying to shift isn't one of mine. My cats DO use the tray and they DO use MY garden. Probably not always but I would far rather I had to shift it than someone else.

And since, when we first moved here, my cat got lots of mice and I subsequently discovered the other half (live in a semi) was overrun with mice I will declare myself QUITE happy with my cat's behaviour.

Oh right. Cats are free spirits, you can't control them, they poo where they want, they're wildlife and they kill things, but that's just the way they are?
Well I want a pet monkey, but I can't have one, because they're awful pets, they'll stink out the house whilst wrecking everything in it, and will probably have loads of mental issues from living in a house instead of a jungle. But I'm a responsible adult, so no monkey for me.
Think about the dead mice your cat will bring home, and the crap in your neighbours' garden, BEFORE you get that adorable little kitty and start having to make daft excuses for them!

Thats a bit expensive coffee for cats, its bad enough buying it for us to drink.............ive a young yorkie and he does a good job if cats come into out garden.......................:D
I honestly thought most people would realise I was talking about using coffee grounds left after brewing for myself. Did you think I was suggesting brewing coffee specially? Or is it that you don't know the difference between 'used coffee grounds' and 'ground coffee'?

First, two wrongs don't make a right. Second this is totally irrelevant to the argument at hand.
Fortunately my border collie deters them briefly. Though she has yet to get the knack of tearing them limb from limb - which would be fair enough seeing as that's what cats do to our dwindling wildlife. Oh I am sorry, little puddycat is a pet but it's in her nature - as is cr*ping on other people's turf. So the rest of us will just have to like it or lump it then. Figuratively speaking of course. Or maybe not...

That's what you need, I have one similar in my garden for next doors cat, turn it on at night. My cat poo worries stopped.

I recommend that device. We used to have a persistent problem with cat poo in the garden, but not now. We tried every other type of cat deterrant method, but none of them provided a long term solution. The scarecrow solved it for us. Fairly expensive, but worth it.

I must stop reading these testosterone filled, cat hating threads. They just wind me up.

You can tell an awful lot about a "man" by the way he regards and treats animals. This thread is very illustrative.

I don't hate cats, I do object to them using my garden as their toilet, which in turns means anything newly planted is disturbed, mostly useless after pee'd/pooh'd on, then mixed in with both the latter.

When I scoop up the poo and through it over to owners back door, they are not happy at all.

    Remedy is simple, isn't it!

You can tell a lot about "neighbours" who care about no one bar themselves and their animals.

They use it because these newly planted plants are probably nicely bedded in compost which is oh so soft. All they are doing is responding to your invitation to use the nice soft compost rather than that crackled old bit of clay that would take a stick of dynamite to shiift 2 feet further down the pathway wherein they have no chance to bury it but in the compost they do.

I wouldn't be either. Prove it was my cat before you start throwing poo around. If it wasn't my cat (and even if it was) what you are doing/advocating could be construed as consituting an actionable nuisance.

Yes - stop inviting them in. ;)

Do me a favour please, point out the posts on this thread by cat haters because, as far as I can see the vast majority, if not all of them, seem to be directing there ire against cat owners who appear to expect other people to make allowances, or alter the way they live, for irresponsible cat owners.

If cat owners took responsibility for their pets, as all other pet owners are expected to do, then problems with pet cats would not occur.

That would just leave the problems that feral cats cause and those problems could be simply cured.

Martin, I believe we had this very same debate on a very similar thread a couple of weeks ago.

I understand that some people get !!!!ed off to find cat !!!!!! on their property. I also understand that some people just don't like cats. I understand that in our last thread, it was expressed by some cat owners that it's almost impossible to monitor a cat once it's out of the back door, while at the same time being cruel to lock up a cat 100% of the time. Some cat owners expressed the opinion that they would be very glad to pick up our cats' !!!!!! if requested. I certainly would.

What I don't understand is all the frankly irrational talk of guns, anti-freeze and general willie waving that accompanies threads such as this one.

My cats happen to prefer the privacy of using a litter tray, woop-di-doo, but I have a garden that is frequented by foxes who leave their !!!!!! on my lawn and I have no intention of shooting or poisoning them. I also have a lampost at the top of my drive where almost every dog who passes stops for a sniff and sometimes leaves me a message. Some dog owners pick it up, others dont.
I would no more shoot or poison the dog, or deliver a parcel of !!!!!! to it's owner than I would shoot my husband.

It's all part of life's rich tapestry and there are bigger things to get your panties in a twist about.
