Get some "silent roar" from your garden centre.
Its pellets of dried lion poo, cats don't like it because they know its from another animal laying down its scent.
The silent roar did not work for me.
What IS working is sprinkling my fresh coffee grounds where they like to hang out. Cats - gone.

I seriously hope this is a "joke".

Only recommended during severe winter conditions:)

As I stated earlier, I have bought numerous devices, cat owner contributed too, alas nothing worked.

At my time and expense, have had to net off the various garden areas we use to grow food stuff, one apple tree is now defunct, due to constant urinating around root area. Another area, I had to put down a tarp when we went on holiday for a month.

I actually wonder what planet some of the members who have replied are on, it appears (if I use myself for an example) I have no rights over a cat, or in my case, cats!

To give another example of owners attitude, (three cats, two dogs) when the latest mutt addition came along, it did nothing but yip constantly when owners were at work. Me, I soaked the mutt when I was around, my other neighbor who works shifts for emergency services complained about yipping through the day to dog owner, who replied " can you not wear ear plugs".

Me and Mrs W look for the peaceful life, we grow, then eat what we can from our garden, right down to jam from plum tree's (no chit up there) But when our efforts are spoiled by selfish people, I am chastised!!

Such is life, I can live with the criticism:A

Cats should poo in a litter tray in or on the owners property and, like all pets, should be kept under control when allowed out.

We would have a lot less damage done to indigenous wildlife if cat owners took responsibilty for their pets
Martin you are my hero. I think one problem is that some people seem to be besotted with cats and feel the need to have several. In my little rural hamlet we have nearly as many cats as people. The local wildlife has subsequently taken a real hammering. My neighbour is aware her cats are part of the problem so to 'compensate' spends a fortune on bird feeders in a nearby tree. Which as a result has become a veritable cat larder. Sigh...But as I have said elsewhere - used coffee grounds sprinkled nearby seems to be keeping them away.

    definately not a nice death.......

I share the same sentiments when I have seen next doors cat play around with a first flight from nest (they nest in my bird box) Jenny Wren. Then there was the vole, young bunny, which was not nice to hear as the cat slowly finished it off!!

    Get real!!

That's what you need, I have one similar in my garden for next doors cat, turn it on at night. My cat poo worries stopped.

Or there is always something like this

  • Then, like all other pets that cannot be controlled, it should be kept in a run. Its not exactly rocket science and we are quite happy to expect all other pets to be prevented from being a nuisance to others.

You might ask yourself, before you make irrational suggestions like this.., why isn't this already being done?

Animals that HAVE to be restrained are those that pose a danger to humans.., as far as I am aware cats don't.., so please get real.

I am as aware as anyone what a pest cats can be.., and found my own way of dealing with it.

Yes cats will kill other animals.., and not nicely but .., u don't see other animals whose instinct is to kill birds and poop in inconvenient places being 'kept in a run'.

And erm, I don't think a cat would do anything other than go insane in a run. Cat noise would become a whole new problem lol.

I've not actually heard of a cat killing a human yet. Or maybe u are confusing the larger variety of cats more commonly found on hotter continents with our pet moggy? So I guess (thank god) u might find cat runs/cages a bit thin on the ground.
  • We had a terrible problem with cats using our front garden as a litter tray as its all gravel. I found a few strategically placed carpet grippers seems to have deterred them for the time being, although I have to keep moving them around under the gravel as they soon figure out where they are and walk around them.
  • Thank you deannatrois, I am fully aware of how little harm cats pose to humans, however do you really think that makes it OK for irresponsible cat owners to allow their cats to roam at will.

Do you really think that it is acceptable to allow cats to continue to kill, for the shear pleasure of it, many of indigenous wildlife, do you really think that people should have to live without songbirds, that the harvest mouse should go extinct just because some cat owners cannot be bothered to act responsibly?

I think it is cat owners who need to 'get real'

Thank you all for great suggestions. I may well try a sonic detector. My daughter has a frog which bounces and laughs really annoyingly on sensor, thought I could try that but she is worried it will get pooed on!
