I grow all sorts of things in my small back yard and over a couple of weeks everything was covered in cat poo. Not nice. I tried breaking up canes and sticking them in the dirt upright so not enough room to get comfortable and do their business but only limited success. So lol.., I got a kitten lol. Within 1 month.., no more cat poo and my cat uses a litter which is far less trouble to clean up and doesn't damage strawberries/veg I am growing. How my tiny (not full grown) cat scares off other rather large full sized cats I don't know but I've seen them growling on the wall surrounding my back yard being given the evil eye by my sweet little moggy so it definitely works lol.

I agree with all the statements that cats have wishes and desires of their own and are more or less untrainable (the saying that cat have staff, not owners is so very true lol) so personally I fought fire with fire lol.

I come from a position of ignorance, not being a pet-owner...where are cats supposed to poo? Are they trained like dogs?

  • I don't think this post is a rational 'cats should be trained to poo only on their owners garden' but a more irrational 'cats should poo anywhere but on my garden' although given how cats are, both ideas are irrational lol.

I think you'll find that it isn't cats. Cats always bury (or attempt to bury) their poo which is why they invariably go in sand, soil or gravel.

No they don't - I have two cats and both poo on the lawn - sometimes they poo in soil, and try to cover it but don't do such a good job. I also have a tray in the house.

My NDN uses a sonic deterrent - presumably to keep my cats off her garden - there are other cats about so she could have been having problems with them, also.

Amazing how hysterical people get about cats :D (Not talking about the original post just generally). They are just another form of wildlife no worse than foxes, slugs or birds.

But they are NOT wildlife they are pets - and not subject to the same control as dogs. And I speak as a cat owner!

Agree. They especially like the long grass.

The other two were smart, so smart they could not distinguish milk from anti-freeze.

Well anti freeze seem to be the in thing now of how to get rid of cats.............it was in our local paper that quite a number of cats had died through drinking anti freeze................I blame the press for highlighting it nobody would know that cats like anti freeze until they broadcast it, now it seems that people are using it as a way to rid their gardens of cats..............definately not a nice death.......

Cats should poo in a litter tray in or on the owners property and, like all pets, should be kept under control when allowed out.

We would have a lot less damage done to indigenous wildlife if cat owners took responsibilty for their pets
  • So speaketh someone who has never tried to 'control' a cat if it is 'allowed' out lol or indeed, tried to control a cat indoors.

Then, like all other pets that cannot be controlled, it should be kept in a run. Its not exactly rocket science and we are quite happy to expect all other pets to be prevented from being a nuisance to others.
