I applied near the end of October for TalkTalk. 31 Oct. Was given date for connection as 2 Dec. Next letter I get I am getting connected to Broadband on 16th. Nov. That is quick. Have had no problems and am very happy with it.
I bought my own modem and didn't use their set-up disc. Yes sometimes it can be slow, but anything better than dial-up. Have found my Postal account information does'nt tie up with my on-line account information though.0 -
Hi, I signed up for TT in October and switched from talk talk onetel so thought as it is the same company it would be simple - I was wrong! I got cut off by onetel before TT switched me on so was left without broadband for a week with no explanation. No welcome pack with modem settings ever arrived - ended up going to CPW to demand one from them - they delivered it the next day. The CD didn't load properly first time but eventually after multiple re-installs it works intermittently. Had already bought the wireless modem but TT don't provide any support for it despite it being covered with their logo - nobody told me that when I signed up!
Connection keeps getting lost and have spent hours on the phone to India trying to get problems sorted but it has improved since the end of December and naturally the connection slows down when everybody wants to use it.
Customer service people are variable - spoke to one chap who was great but he is the only one - the rest don't seem to give a damn.
Whenever I get a problem now I have to reboot the system as their connect and go software tries to do some strange things (it just changed my display settings!) whilst a reboot seems to cure most issues. Oh I know why should you have to reboot so much but at least it works most of the time now! Never gets anywhere near the lightening fast speeds they promise but it is adequate in the main.
Hope that helps!0 -
I didn't have any problems for the first 3 months but was then cut off without a reason! They told me it would be 6 weeks before I could be reconnected to their Broadband service so I signed up with BT and had their broadband 2 days later - fantastic service and no outtages (so far!!)
I had hours on the phone to India and the UK (UK if I was lucky). I received a number of different answers as to why my broadband service had ceased. The whole series of events was one big joke.
I would advise people to avoid Talk Talk at all cost (based on my experience) - certainly if you rely on your broadband connection.0 -
BEWARE! Talktalk suck -When the monthly cost of my Broadband service from tt was about to rise, & they couldn't offer the 8mbps/talkfree service to my region, I asked for a MAC number, & told them by phone (after waiting on their 0870 number for ages) that I would transfer to another provider, & then by email that I had used the MAC & that I no longer had this type of account with them (their service was by then dead on my line in any case!).
A series of communications followed where in spite of repeated emails back & forth with various addresses of their billing department(s?) I continued to receive bills on the account (which had been paid up to date by DD) & threatening letters. Letters I sent to their head of credit control were ignored until I sent one by registered post, following which my wife received a daytime call from a lady who told me that my mobile phone account was being terminated (I have never had one of these with CPW, & when easymobile went phut last year & offered to transfer me to cpw with £15 free credit, I declined), and that some of my 'debt' was being retracted, so that I would only have to pay some £70.
They have now sold the debt to
Corporate Credit Media Ltd & I await their heavies...0 -
I've been with Talktalk since the originall offer started.
I opted for the Talk 3 International offer with the broadband included in the price.
I had a couple of problems at first sorting my MAC code out etc.. but since that was all sorted i have experienced good broadband speeds and no problems with the landline service.
I have family living in New Zealand and Australia and with the free calls to this country using the code they gave me I have had no problems with calls to the free countries at all.
I'm delighted with the service and have been since registering with them.
I must have been one of the lucky ones judging from the posts that i have read on this site.
Hope all your problems get sorted. No reliance should be placed on the above.0 -
Been with Talktalk for approx 18 months, initially cals only but now line rental and broadband. Customer Service is poor, calls for technical support are diverted to India, great difficulty with language barrier, can take 10minutes just for them to find your details. Had problem with broadband took 3 weeks before they passed to BT to rectify problem at exchange. Second Level Support based in UK is slightly better, but getting put through to any supervisors or managers is just not possible even when by passing Talktalk and going through Carephonewarehouse main switchboard.
Problems with emails going off line for days at atime, internet connection slow and sometimes not available. No problems with telephone connection or line.
For price still good value but they need to beef up customer service, ditch the india call centre and train up the customer reps here in UK.Snootchie Bootchies!0 -
I signed up in July and the phone was set up almost straight away but had to wait a couple of months for Broadband - it was a bit of a hassle to set up as they messed up with my MAC code and I had to get it again from my old supplier (the excellent, but not free, Nildram).
Once it was all set up, it's not quite as quick or reliable as Nildram but not too many problems. The one serious issue I had was due to hardware my end but the customer service from Talk Talk was terrible as I tried to troubleshoot the problem. I was on hold for up to an hour to get through and then was treated like a child as the guy on the other end just read through a script with me without really understanding the problem (yes, I have checked the microfilters multiple times!). I was also promised a call back from a 2nd line support person but it never happened and I solved the problem myself the next day.
Having said all that, my phone and Broadband combined is much cheaper than before and the service is fine for what I need. I guess the moral is that if you have no problems, it is fine, but heaven help you if you need to contact their customer service for help!0 -

The calls are not FREE you pay for them in the total package. If you forget to dial the access code they charge you ,they have even been charging people for inclusive calls who have dialled the access number.
The old saying "Buy cheap pay twice." springs to mind about this offer.0 -
I have been with talk talk for a couple of months now, and the only problems so far have been getting cut off very occasionally, I was with BT previously and they were pretty much the same. Cant complain. But I have read reports and some replies on this forum, and customer service appears to be severely lacking. Hopefully I wont need it! (ok, maybe Im asking for trouble now!!)0

I joined talk talk last September and I'm pleased to say I have had no problems, except for being given my password in upper and not lower case. At present the broadband is £10.00/month the phone works OK and the change over went smoothly. Sorry if this annoys those badly served but if I'm right, once your number is registered at least you don't have to pay for advice which used to be a complete pain (so I read). Their whole deal has halved my phone, b/band bill and the kids now take care on phoning mobiles as I can see all the numbers on the itemised bill!0
