Back in October I wrote (being lazy here :p ) -

I applied at the end of July, and was given a broadband Go Live date of September.

My phone moved over in August as expected, and sure enough on 1st September there was my broadband. OK, so they forgot to tell me, and I spent a day and a half thinking my PC was infected with something nasty as I couldn't get internet access, but when the lightbulb sprang into life and I thought to try setting up Talk Talk everything was there (my modem had come through a couple of weeks prior with no other paperwork) .

A couple of email issues at the very start, with which customer service were very helpful, but other than that no problems. The connection speed is no worse than my old supplier (Tiscali), and at times better. The connection quality is definitely better (was loosing connection for a couple of hours at a time at least once a week with Tiscali) , and billing is much more reliable so far.

On the whole I stand by what I said.

There are odd occassions where I loose connection and have to restart the computer for it to pick up again - but I don't know whether this is them or me (been mainly since I downloaded the new version of Explorer and have more than 3 tabs open, so suspect that's the real issue).

I couldn't continue with their antiviral/security software at the end of the 90 day free trial as the online system couldn't recognise my account number as being a broadband account - but that's not a big problem - just downloaded AVG instead.

I received a letter not long after the last thread giving me an line upgrade date sometime in November, but then got another one saying actually they couldn't do it then. I've not been given a new date yet, but to be honest I'm not too bothered - the high speed was never a big issue for me (I don't download music or films, I just surf and shop) - my main reason for moving was the overall price - which saves me between £15 and £20 a month on my old service (BT phone and Tiscali BB).

    :)

Funnily enough, I bumped into a woman in the library just before Christmas who had had totally the opposite experience with Talk Talk and was getting out as quickly as she could - and yet she's (most likely - small town) on the same exchange, and appears to have signed up at roughly the same time as me - strange

  • We have had talktalk for a couple of years and upgraded to their free broadband offer including the line rentel. Switch over of line rental went ok, didn't need to do anything to the bradband.

All was ok until the 'upgrade' that went on our line. We didn't have broadband for a week and phoneline was intermittent - I'm still waiting for one of my 4 requests for managers callback since last nov!

Turns out when they upgraded, the ip address changed and no one told us to change the settings on our computer

It was really, really frustrating that one week without broadband, endless phonecalls, no ownership of problem and it was resolved by 'pot luck' of speaking to the right knowledgeable person, who took ownership and phoned us back twice to make sure we had got everything back up working correctly - well sone that man! - and within a couple of hours (only cos hubby wasn't home!)

Not had any real problems since, although broadband can be VERY slow at peak times ie Sun eve.

I must be one of the exceptions. I was already with Talk Talk before they started this promotion. I decided to apply for the Talk 3 International with the free broadband. Even before this I had never had any problems with them. I would advise anyone to go with them as the savings are great. Thumbs up from me.

  • Been with TT since it was first rolled out in my area. Had good speeds but then started to us p2p file sharing so they applied a bandwidth throttle. My own fault I suppose. Crawls along like dial-up now but I'm signed up for 18 months.....9 months to go. Darned if I'm going to pay them £70 to change to another supplier. I agree with most posters that customer services are useless.Tech Support useful if you know what they're on about.
  • I had nothing but trouble from the start with Talktalk, it's not easy speaking to any of the customer service team either as their English is so bad, i ended up having to contact the director as one of the customer service team thought it was very funny that she couldnt really speak english. I had no telephone for two and a half weeks and nerver got the broard band so after the fourth week i cancelled and went back to BT. The stress and the cost of the phone calls and the letters i had to send out were really not worth it. BT may be a little more expensive but the service is A1.
Finally in reply to my third letter talktalk said that they never thought that so many people would join the offer. What did they think would happen, we all love something for nothing.
This has also been the case for 3 of my friends.
All i have left to say is i wouldn't recomend any one go with Talktalk

I signed up in May and finally got sorted in late July. Because of the v.poor Customer Service I recieved, I complained. When (after 3 attempts) I failed to get a satisfactory response, I wrote to Otelo who took up my case. Two months later, I have just received a letter of apology from TalkTalk (which I intend to frame!) and will be receiving a amount of compensation also. If you persevere you can eventually beat the big boys!!
  • My TalkTalk experience has been fine, but I've taken the path of Least Contact.

I bought my own modem, didn't use (heck, didn't even receive) the start-up pack and have never had the misfortune to call customer services. I'll be moving house sometime in the near future, so that'll be the first big opportunity for agro, assuming the technical aspects of my service continue to function (i.e. they don't disconnect me on a whim...)

I've written about the whole thing here: http://kember.net/articles/158/talktalk-broadband

I'm not normally one to NOT complain about the service I get from companies (eg Tesco's food bags with holes in grr!!) so this is quite a new one for me.

I have nothing but praise for TalkTalk!

Previously I’ve had NTL cable broadband, and then moved to out of the area so got Tesco ADSL because it was free install, worked out cheapest over a year, etc. A big mistake seeing as it’s actually run by NTL, when it works, it’s great, when it doesn’t-customer support-argh! I’d actually tried to move to Tiscali, but they couldn’t get several MAC codes to work, and their support centres haven’t got a clue, which was enough to put me off them. I didn't join TalkTalk immediately after they announced their offer because I was a bit dubious, and expected long queues, but their deal was definitely cheap, and no drawbacks like tiny usage limits. When there was an expected three month wait I calculated it was cheaper to stay on my existing contract, but once the join time was down to a month I signed up. True to their word within a couple of weeks the phone was transferred. A couple of weeks later the broadband had been transferred. Admittedly the letter with my new details on didn’t arrive until the day after the transfer leading to some downtime, but the support centre were nice, polite and totally helpful.

So I had upgraded from 512Mbit ADSL to 2MBit, decreased my costs by £8 pm, and got free anytime UK landline calls to boot! How could I be happier? Well I received a letter telling me they were planning to upgrade my exchange on a specific date, along with exactly what would be affected. Sure enough on that day the services were out for a while, and came back up with 5Mbit ADSL!!

I’m sorry for all those people that have had trouble moving over to TalkTalk, but from the looks of the poll you do seem to be in the minority-if that makes you feel better :)
