  • best advice i can give (from experience) is that nobody will take it seriously at talk talk. you need to go to OFFTEL and complain. THey send you a complaint reference number. Then call talk talk and ask to speak to a manager about your OFFTEL complaint. They usually get a bit more attentive n put you straight through, ask for your reference number, and (in my case) sorted problems out within a week (after 6 weeks of doing nothing).

They even called back after this ! (having promised many times before, but never doing so)
  • We have relatives in USA, Australia and New Zealand and we use the internet extensively so Talk Talk 3 International has been and is wonderful with no problems for ages.

I have been dealing with Talktalk since May over dropping connections etc. I have only just managed to get back online since Sunday 16th September.

I have just had enough of them. They make promises they don't keep. They never call back when they say they will. Avoid them like the plague!!!

They say they are willing to pay me compensation of £5 per month for the next 6 months. My contract runs out in 3 months! They say if I choose to leave early I have to pay a £70 fee AND my service will be off for approx 2 months anyway because I will have to contact BT regarding my line.

    Are they just threatening me!

Can someone please help me. I am desperate to leave (quickly) and find a Company that cares!

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker Car Insurance Carver!
If TT have offered you what amounts to compensation, that is an admission that they have failed to provide the service for which you signed up (i.e. they are in breach of contract).

I'd write (copy to Ofcom and Otelo) demanding to be released from the contract without penalty, delay or obstruction.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Not much concrete advice here but mate of mine left TTs unbundled service and was up and running within 2 weeks, phone line BT within a week, and a new ISP a week later.
Wasn't charged the £70 for leaving TT in July but still getting bills from them which he queries, gets credited the money charged in error then the next month is charged again and so it goes on.
Service from BT a bit wobbly but no charge for the line going back to BT but there seems to be differing experiences of that maybe involving £125 fee.
He was charged I think £30 by his ISP to reprovision his line for BB as the unbundling thing really screws things up if you want to move away.
Keeping the pedants at bay - dot an i or cross a t only if you feel you really can't stop yourself:p
  • The original modem I received broke (I work for another ISP in Northern Ireland and knew the problem straight away) and their technical support staff were useless and told me they would send out a replacement but it never came. I walked into a Carephone Warehouse (where I had originally signed up with TalkTalk) and they said there was nothing on the sytem regarding a replacement modem but took my old one and gave me a replacemrnt there and then.

Since then the service has been fantastic and they have even upgraded me from 2MB to 6.5MB and I usually get around 5.7Mb which is fantastic!! All this for £20 a month including free calls!

Would highly reccommend them, and have done so to many friends and family who have also received a top class service!

connected quicker than they said took about 3 weeks from when i joined.

the customer services were really helpful and friendly. they resolved my problem quicker than they promised and called me back.
my £24 cashback from topcashback tracked!

miles better than all the other companies i tried. bt and bulldog are pathetic compared to them

Don't know about complaining to OFCOM but you can complain to Otelo (Office of the Telecommunications Ombudsman). They have an online complaint form (http://oteloapp.otelo.org.uk/tkwebflow/flow.aspx?f=OteloInternetComplaint&template=otelowebtpl&xsl=Otelowebdtree)

I've just had my complaint against TalkTalk taken on by Otelo - 93 pages of emails between TalkTalk and myself over the last 6 months are now on route to Otelo! :D
  • Just noticed this interesting threaad.
I've had some problems too. My line went down for a week, yet they wouldn't do anything about it, said it was my fault, then agredd it was theres. I got £1 compensation from them for 5 days without a phone!
Something i've noticed over the last few months is that my phone bill has charges on it for 'call return'. Now i have NEVER used call or return...after all i would know if i had because the call would be returned and i haven't had any.
How do approach this problem, i can't prove i've never used call return? Ok its only 5p a time but this month theres 3 of them on my bill.
The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter :(
