Trundled back earlier from my fastest ever 3k - knocking 1min 20 off my previous best - and weighed in again at a rather splendid 22stone 13. If I can get through the weekend without tipping back over the 23 stone mark it'll be a real achievement. Today will have some moneysaving too - in the old days if I was getting into work early due to my kids being off then I would stop off at the McDonalds drivethru just by my work and get a double Bacon mcmuffin meal and a double Sausage one with two large coffees, take it all to my desk and chomp merrily for a few minutes gaining a few hundred calories and spending 7quid I didn't need to spend. Now I take an empty plastic bottle that I fill up with cold water in the canteen. Had promised the family I'd get them kebabs tonight but with them being sick they better stick to the copious amounts of tinned soup we have....

Hate to tell you this, but that McDonalds meal you described is actually about 1000 calories:

Double bacon McMuffin = 400 calories
Double sausage McMuffin = 565 calories
    plus your coffees :o)

So you are doing well to avoid it!
I'm not trying to put you off, it's just good to be educated about the fuel we put in our bodies :)

And here's me thinking it was because of ice cream

When you think about the effort that is required to get a Ronald milkshake up the straw the theory seems to hold, but then I'm watching 9/11 conspiracy road trip.

  • Well earned bottle of red (only £3.99 MoneySavers) being downed tonight - family all back on the mend - kebab shop dodged tonight, we really are reining in our penchant for takeaways. And that was a far too articulate phrase for a Friday night. Looking forward to my stupidoclock run tomorrow and might up the ante by trying to bang out a 5k'er - after all, aside from crippling knee injuries and respiratory problems what's the worse that can happen?
I must add that it will take more than woodpulp to take my love of McD's away. Having been involved in the food chain I know what indignities happen to most stuff we get served. If you ever went to Nandos or ate any food on a cross-channel ferry a decade ago there's a good chance I chucked that chicken. We used to use them as footballs at break time, and used the industrial sized tubs of Nando sauce in the freezer room as a bin for fag ends and all other unmentionables. Did it put me off Nandos? Well actually yes.

Just spent a long time this evening reading this. Fab - great read Mr B think many can relate to some of it (if not most of it)

Trying to get some of my weight off (also fall into morbidly obese catogory) , its making me miserable as hell - why is it my brain thinks food / drink will make me HAPPY !!!!

An idea that might help. I had it suggested to me by a friend who trains frequently, buy yourself an exercise book and use it to record your exercise. That way you will be able to see an improvement in your time and/or distance. I have just started it for myself and use it to record that I am actually increasing the distance I am covering.
Also using the same process to record everything I spend. I am better when I can actually see it written down and writing it does focus the mind.
Anyway, hope your day has been better.

So true how motivated and focused it keeps you when you can look back and see your progress written down. I do a similar thing to you but I record my exercise, times and distance in my dairy.

Flippin eck, I thought I was up early this morning (owl hooting unhelpfully outside my bedroom window at silly o'clock...in the middle of a city as well, weird...)

Unfotunately I hadnt then, or now, gone to bed yet! Wish I could say I was out partying but in fact I have a dissertation due in next week so rushing to get it done. Fingers crossed.
  • Like all top athletes, I listen intensely to my brain and body - yesterday they both demanded red wine and McCoys crisps (2 for 1 at the Co-Op so technically moneysaving), and this morning they both refused to even consider a 5k run. They did let me do my usual 3k tho and be back in time to give the boy his morning bottle - so it's all good. Just nudged up to 23-0 but am not complaining and am starting to not take the daily weigh-ins too seriously. Might try and bag up the remaining CDs for magpie today and really have to get my head around ebaying all the vinyl - altho part of me is thinking to wait til a bit nearer Christmas - our projections for this month are looking OK, so it might be worth keeping the discs in my pocket so to speak.
  • Morning MR B and followers

I catch up with your diary every morning :)

I just wanted to highly recommend the Padders thread to you and anyone else who is trying to bust down their debts.

I can honestly say its turned things around for me personally and many others.

Basically its about making a payment a day to your debts, could be £10, 50p or whatever, but its about just getting into that habit of paying something. It is highly addictive, possibly even more so than your diary! :rotfl:

With the small savings your making by avoiding maccy D's ect, i think the P.A.D. Challenge could well be one for you!
Hope you can find the time to take a look :D
