looks like your steaming ahead with sorting stuff
  • Wot no school work in the half term ;) You are an inspiration Mr B and my constant source of smiles and giggles through the dreary drudgery of debt dodging. I think I'll have made it to zero owed by the end of March and possibly a stone lost also. I wouldn't have been able to do it without your posts pinging into my inbox to remind me I'm not alone, to stop wallowing and try to look at the brighter side of life. I know you never said this in so many words but that was the vibe :D:D:D Go Bloaters Go!

Well done on the perm contract. Nice to have that extra bit of security.
Sold £896 worth of stuff on ebay, but as yet no-one has paid. Will give them until tomorrow night before sending them a 3rd reminder.

Coming out of lurkdom to offer my congratulations Mr B! I'm not on here very often nowadays but I like to catch up with your news and I think you've earned all the good things you're making happen. :)

And so the Bloater bus of positivity trundles on - found an unopened letter from Mrs B's fruity former mobile phone provider - and rather than thinking it was some errant bill or a plea to return malarky, I was convinced it would contain a cheque. And surely enough it did. For thirteen unexpected quid. A good way to start the morning. Got the PPI paperwork ready now as well to post - just need to acquire an envelope. Meeting went well - was offered permanent contract (woo-hoo) and the go-ahead to try and devise some extra-curricular stuff that can bring in some more money. The executive jet and private parking spot were not offered this time. It is secure and it is fun. And so I shall take it. Have a choice between a celebratory drink or three of wine, or listing some more old vinyl on ebay. Probably the latter will win out.

  • Evening all. Been a very odd week (but then what week isn't? - I have long since given up any pursuit of the damn elusive 'normal'). Faith in ebay has been restored with the drip-drip of paypal payments appearing and then being swiftly transferred to the current account - keeping my head above water for another month.

Next month is going to be a bigger challenge - council tax payments are back again and there is no natural break in the month in order to do the ebay thing - by my reckoning I have approximately 1000 items left to list although that figure does keep on rising as the rest of the family find things they don't want. It's just the usual problem I have of lack of space (compounded by my borderline OCD when it comes to clutter) so whenever I get everything out to organise it, I have to put it all back again often before I have finished - this is probably why the shed takes months to sort out - I haven't got the mental courage to allow clutter to stay in sight for any time longer than strictly necessary.
Biggest worry this week has been the creeping onset of what I guess (and thanks to the internet have self-diagnosed) as arthritus. My left ankle - plus my right shoulder and both thumbs have started giving me excruitating pains which have really put the blocks on the running I had wanted to do. Having done some research I think I will have to rethink my exercise strategy and try and find some natural remedies to counteract the pain. Any ideas or suggestions from my learned friends on here will be much appreciated.

*pops out of lurkdom* glucosamine is meant to be good but is expensive, don't be fooled by cheaper bottles on the shelves, they usually just contain smaller doses, but if H&B still have their sale on might be worth a try. If it is arthritis you should keep mobile as losing weight reduces symptoms/slows deterioration but try not to stress affected joints- can you cycle instead of running? The saddle soreness goes away eventually . And, see your doc, the sooner you start appropriate treatment the better. (not a professional opinion, just something that runs in my family) *disappears back into the shadows again*

Weight loss will help Mr B - sorry. Jury is out on glucosamine but good old fashioned cod liver oil seems to do the trick with me - oh and yoga!

  • Hi Mr Bloater

I am one of your lurkers - your diary gives me inspiration and hope.

glucosamine and chodriaton - many validated studies showing it works. Improvement doesn't happen over night. An Oxford study chose to look at knee joints and were able to demonstrate improvement over a 3 month period with x-rays. The correct dosage is very important to gain the benefit.

    Following you on your journey.

    Kind regards

    Hi Mr Bloater,

Another lurker de-lurking to agree; glucosamine, fish oils - and cider vinegar - are all efficacious at holding back the ravages of time on connective tissue.

Also consider swimming - less strain on the joints than running for the larger person. ;)

Worth having blood tests and a word with one's esteemed Medical Officer to confirm* your suspicions first, of course.
