I'm not letting bottles of Bailey's over the doorstep this year. Sorry and all that, but what on earth is the point of drinking the stuff when it's such a swine to shift the weight afterwards :D

Me too. They're in my cupboard and they're not going anywhere except down my throat .

Following the solid advice on this thread me and Mrs B ensured the Baileys would not spoil our Christmas so we demolished it midweek, and also attempted to do the same with the gin last night. Having never been through a divorce or a custodial sentence I can only presume that the long-drawn out endgame I seem to be playing at work is a similar experience to the dying throes of either of those two events - the days are just not ending - usually we speed through to Christmas in a blur of festivity and eggnog (not that I've actually ever tried eggnog) but every. weekday. i s . d r a g g i n g. I just want to be free of the tyrants - tis hard to concentrate on the noble intentions of moneysaving and fitness when all you want to do is take the gin out of dragging.

Well done Mr B, great effort :T. I discovered 4 bottles of Baileys in the cupboard last night, lurking behind the out of date Guinness so you and Mrs B can drop by and help out if you like :D.

Just 2 more weeks to go and it will all be over. Unless you're planning on pegging it any time soon that is a tiny % of your life so gird your loins, grit your teeth and count the days :).

Mr B ... you do know that diets don't work, don't you? Why not look at how you overeat/drink rather than why ... there will ALWAYS be a why, but you have control over the HOW :)

I like very much GG suggestions of Baileys and frightening you with talk of meal replacement shakes and DMPs...

You have not said how your shed is yet? Is it still in tetris mode?

  • Yikes - been awhile since I posted anything. Today finds me in a chipper mood as I had an induction day at my new place and I loved it. Was made to feel very welcome and am really looking forward to starting in January. Pay cut and longer commute time aside, it's without doubt the best move for me and will see me extend my career by a number of years.

Mother-in-law arrives Sunday. This should lead to me wholeheartedly re-embracing my running - perhaps sometimes for hours at a time. And despite the shed resembling something from Extreme Hoarders - I should be able to crawl into a little space there and fire up my laptop and report back to this forum on a more regular basis.

It's been a long strange trip since mid-September's fallout at work, and while on many an occasion I think I have tried to convince myself it was all alright, I now know it's going to be alright. And 2013 is going to see some serious smashing of the debt - every other time I fancy a bottle of wine I am going to pay a fiver extra off the mortgage, or chuck some pound coins at the credit cards. Every little will help. But I still won't deprive myself of the vino, or start knitting yoghurt. Not yet anyhow.
  • Just to add that since my last post I had one of those "I'll just pop out and get another bottle of red" moments: but, quite literally putting my money well away from where my mouth is, I went and threw a fiver on one of my credit cards instead of trekking to the Co-Op. Whilst this has had the knock-on effect on me draining MrsB's gin - I somehow feel morally superior than before.
