They're having trouble downloading anything. DDS is <600kb and they couldn't download that.

Two green lights means it's synced; I'm not sure how to check sync speeds for a USB modem without having to get you to download software, so I'll let penrhyn finish that line of thought ;)

I really think you should try uninstalling Kaspersky - it's not likely to break anything, and at worst you can just put it back on using the CD. At least we'll know that other lines of enquiry aren't a waste of time.

Try IE in no addon mode. It doesn't change any settings and you can still use IE normally if it doesn't solve any problems.

Have tried this, but it hasn't made any difference. Thanks anyway.

ctrl alt del, task manager, performance, post commit charge total and peak

Can't download anything Closed, so unfortunately will probably end up have to take it back to factory settings yet again, which is a real pain.

Is there any easy way of saving documents in Word and Excel and photos?

It should already be on the machine if you ever downloaded it - been waiting since last October

How are you managing to read this?

uninstall kaspersky, see if it improves.

Very slowly, ironically this is about the only site that is working, albeit not nearly as fast as usual. However, downloads are impossible. I really wanted to try the Malwarebytes scan, but no way will it work.

I don't have it because the computer was wiped when taken back to factory settings.

The computer is working okay when moving around in Word and Excel, it just seems to be the internet that is the problem, which makes me wonder if taking it back to factory settings is needed.

    what is your commit charge

uninstall kaspersky (5 minutes) if that doesn't work, backup your data (10 minutes) then restore to factory settings (10 minutes)

you'd be better off with a router instead of a usb modem

easy way to backup is a dvd or external drive.

I still totally agree with that comment.

Computers to me are very mystical and complicated things and to be honest I find messing with them quite scary.

Think I will try deleting Kaspersky and installing the newer version just to see if that helps. That is of course if it will install:eek:

The man from Orange said he was going to send me a new router, I just presumed he meant the same thing that I have now, but perhaps he didn't. What is the difference? Does it still go into the telephone point and the back of the computer?

Thank you for your patience Closed................
