It would appear that the OP ignores advice given - see this thread here
Only because I have very little computer knowledge and am terrified that if I change something it won't work at all.
It is fine for all of you who understand computers and how they work etc, but very intimidating if you don't.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -

Your PC is virtually useless now and the Orange script monkey could not help you.
Why ask if you choose to ignore the advice given on here! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Just do as dogmaryxx suggests:
1/ Uninstall Kaspersky
2/ Run the Kaspersky Removal Tool several times, and reboot (http://support.kaspersky.com/downloads/utils/kavremover.exe)
3/ Install the Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 trial (http://www.kaspersky.co.uk/internet_security_trial)
4/ Stick in your valid licence key
You don't need to replace your paid version of Kaspersky with Avast; the latest AV-C tests show that the new Kaspersky is quite fast so hopefully should perform well on your computer.0 -
If you're running Windows, if you press cntrl+alt+del and view the taskmanager and then the performance tab, is the CPU usage high?
If you click on the processes tab and then click on the CPU tab to sort highest/lowest usage, is there anything listed there that has high CPU usage?
Is the hard drive busy when the computer is very slow? If you reboot and select safe mode (reboot, then press F8 when the machine is booting up to bring up the menu) is the computer slow?
If you are sure that Kaspersky is causing the slowness have you tried disabling or uninstalling Kaspersky and then reinstalling?
iexplore.exe looks very high 135,144K at the moment in mem usage, system idle process is 99 under the CPU column, but haven't got a clue what any of it means.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
OP are you using a Router or USB modem, in either case whats the make and model.
I ask 'cos it would be useful to check your sync speed.
BTW How much RAM have you got, I note that the 5000 will take 4Gb.
Apologies if this has already been covered. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

It is a Speedtouch modem provided by Orange many years ago, when I spoke to the man there today he said he is going to send a new one just in case there is a problem with the existing modem. It was fine on Monday evening though, the problem only started yesterday.
It has 504 RAM (was supposed to be 512)Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
Try IE in no addon mode. It doesn't change any settings and you can still use IE normally if it doesn't solve any problems.
- Click the Start button
, click All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools, and then click Internet Explorer (No Add-ons).
More here that may help without having to download anything: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/help/internet-explorer/slow-five-tips-to-boost-performance0 - Click the Start button

Yes, but is it a USB modem - you can tell, because it'll be plugged into (and powered) by the USB port.0

Yes, it is plugged into the back of the computer. It has two green lights on the front - one says USB, other says ADSL.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
