BT will want you to try with a new router first before going the line fault route.

Oh, I am so sorry:o Head in a whirl, can't think straight today.

Router won't be here for about a week - OMG!!!

Just wanted to thank you all for your very helpful comments.

I intended uninstalling Kaspersky this morning just to see if it made any difference.

However, thought I would just try the internet to see if there is any improvement and amazingly it is back to normal:T So it must have been a problem with the telephone line or Orange that lasted two days.

I am going to take your good advice and upgrade to Kaspersky 2012 though.

I am also going to buy a replacement pc with hopefully 4gb RAM instead of my 504 and a nice flat screen instead of the old CRT.

Dinopc have a very good offer on at the moment - a complete package for £389 - which looks a bargain compared to other places and they offer a 3 year warranty.

    Thank you all again.

Any opinions - good or bad - on Dinopc?

Reviews in general seem to be pretty mixed.

THIS POST IS NOW OBSOLETE DUE TO OH READING DELL MANUAL!

Doesn't look like I will be getting my new computer after all:(

My OH has decided to try upgrading memory - taking it from 2 x 256MB to 2 x 1GB of RAM.

I told him that it probably won't work because the computer is so old, but he says if it prolongs its life for another year or so it is worth it - so no new machine now:eek:

Can you buy flat screens at a resonable price that work with Dell computers?

Yes, check on ebay for the memory. Should be around £15 per 1Gb stick. Look for PC3200 184 pin DDR Non EEC. 2Gb will make a lot of difference - do you have a 3.4Ghz processor in your machine?

Have ordered this (on OH's say so!!), but on doing some checking I don't think it is going to work:eek:

    "Kingston HyperX 1GB PC2-6400 800MHz DDR2-SDRAM Unbuffered Non-ECC CL5 (5-5-5-15) DIMM Memory"

On the Crucial site it says we should have this one:

    1GB
    DDR2 PC2-5300 • CL=5 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-667 • 1.8V • 128Meg x 64 • • Part #: CT907832

The Kingston one has already been despatched, so should I just try and send it back without opening, or do you think there is a chance it will work? I think it is the 800MHz that is the main difference.

The processor in my computer is a Pentium(R) 4CPU 2.80GHz.

    Many thanks.
