There may be a fault on your line restricting the speed of your connection.
Are other programmes running slowly on the machine? That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
I know someone who didn't renew antivirus and lasted 2 years without it !!0

Shall I have a go at putting on the newer version and then uninstalling the old one, which is the way they say to do it? (if it will install the new one of course)
The way they tell you to do it is to download and save the new version to your desktop, uninstall the old version then run the file from your desktop, do not install the new version until you have removed the old one.0 -

Yes but I am totally neurotic;)
I can't get into my email, I can't get into Ebay, but with a lot of patience MSE is not too bad - wonder why?Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
She won't be able to download the new one, or Avast, or MSE; she can't even download a less than 1mb file.
She could however have a friend download it for her and put it on a USB stick (also the removal tool, which I think will be quite important).0 -

Word and Excel seem absolutely fine, open documents instantly. It just seem to be the internet.
I wonder if it would be worth phoning BT and asking about the line.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
According to your other thread you have the CD version for 2011, just uninstall the version you have now and see if your computer speeds up, you can always re-install using the CD if there is no difference.0

BT will want you to try with a new router first before going the line fault route.0 -
I have no idea if it's kaspersky related or not, but until you try it we will never know and go round in circles endlessly - you can't do anything now, so nothing to lose. You can't post a hijackthis log, so every suggestion is guesswork - it could be your isp, it could be lots of things.
you do need windows firewall on, before connecting to the net without kaspersky, so disconnect from the net, uninstall kaspersky, probably involves a reboot, make sure windows firewall is on, then reconnect, and try downloading hijackthis and if successful post the log.!!
