I've only recently moved a fair distance away from my folks. I speak to my dad on the phone Wednesday and Sunday and periodically throughout the week, as and when it occurs. My mum I don't speak to on the phone often but we text every day/second day. I also phone my grandparents once a week, usually a Sunday too.

I've lived here for about 3 months now, and my dad has visited once and my mum once. I've also went home once.

We go to visit OH's parents every 7-14 days, depending on how shifts etc work out, but it has been more over the summer as his parents get the holidays off. I usually phone or text OH's mum every few days :)

I see my parents 3/4 times a year. I would say I speak to them on average once a week. We live a few hundred miles apart.

We get on in general and the current level of contact works for us all.

very similar story with me - I feel very close to my mum, have always (as an adult) had a great relationship with her, and this amount of contact works well for us.
  • i talk to my parents once or twice a week for about 20 mins to half an hour at a time, and see them about 4 -5 times a year as we live 200 miles apart.

i talk to the MIL once a week for about an hour and see them about 4 times a year as well as we live nearly 8 hours drive from them.
  • I live about 300 miles from parents and on average call about once a week but may call more often if something is going on/got news etc. I only see them 4/5 times a year for a few days.

OH lives only about 150 miles from parents, again once a week calls but we see them about once a month.

I have grown away from my roots and have a very distant relationship with my folks, they find it hard to relate to me as an adult, till recently probably spoke on the phone once every 6 weeks or so, probably briefly just to check-in really, see them 2-3 times a year even tho they are only an hour away. But seeing them every couple of weeks now, but I know the sudden interest is not to see me but their new grand daughter.

my dad isnt working at the moment and we share a car so i see him most days and he is down at my house sorting out my garden for me too so has spent the entire day here since about thursday lol.

i speak to my mum every day, today ive spoken to her on the phone twice and she needed to go and will call me back soon so thats 3 times and we have exchanged several texts but we had something to discuss.

i spend one day at the weekend with my parents normally too. even when i lived abroad i spoke to my mum every single night without fail.

My dad I see a couple of times a year.. too often.. he lives about a 5 minute drive away.

My mother lives the next street (we have the same house number!).. usually I see her 2- 3 times a week but at the moment I cant get out and she is having a breakdown of sorts.. I simply do not have the energy or the time to feed her manipulation and controlling behaviour so we appear to be avoiding each other.

We see OHs family maybe once every 4-6 weeks.. they live 200 miles away so it is bit of a hike when heavily pregnant and with a baby in tow... but they know where we live so can come any time.

I spoke to my Mum every day and would see her about once a fortnight to once a month. I feel I was very close to my mum (although not in distance) and that is why I still miss her everyday and she died 16 years ago.

We exchange visits with my parents every couple of months (they are 100+ miles away). We have one lengthy phone chat over the weekend, with occasional shorter calls inbetween as needed. But we "see" each other daily on FB :D
