My son 11 has just broken his dad's ipod

Things get broken, but it is people that count. I tried to tell myself that every time my 2 broke something. It could have been your son that came off while cycling and he could have gone under a car. In the context of what has been going on around the country lately, then it's not so bad. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

All hell has broken loose here, 11 year old son, dropped his dad's ipod on the kerb whilst cycling it won't switch on, is broken all down the back and his dad not impressed.
Son in his room, me saying no probs we shall take it to the ipod shop, see what they say, it is fine, everyone keep calm.
Son saving for game coming out in November, offered it to his dad, me say no it was an accident, not deliberate, dad saying I have lost years of my songs and contacts, dad hands in pockets and grunting, son in his room out of the way, for crying out loud it is only an ipod! I suppose if it had been mine and my songs then I would feel as bad as his dad but let's all keep calm and see what the damage is first!
oh dear .... I havent read the other posts in this thread yet victory, but I will, because I'd be interested to see what others would advise in this situation.
My DD has an ipod, I've told her its not a toy, its expensive and if she breaks it, thats it, it won't be getting replaced. Even if it was an accident, I do think your son should offer his game money to his dad to help get it repaired/a replacement. And your OH will just need to get over the loss of his music if it comes to that, as he presumably lets your son use it, so this kind of thing could happen.0 -
My DD3 burned a hole in the brand new £300 carpet in the middle room that had been down 3 days!, one of the beasts set the huge range cooker alight resulting in the downstairs being smoke damaged and me being 3 months without a cooker.. 17th December!!! DD4 spilled tea on my lappy last week.. Ive had doors and windows replaced they have broken, spindles on the stairs, toilet seats a and basin in the bathroom, beds, chests of drawers.. why are they not indestructible? wardrobes etc.. I havent done so bad myself though I am bit of a clumsy oaf too..
Crikey. The only things I remember breaking as a kid are a clock, a cup, and a glass in a hotel. There were probably others but only small things.
In those days expensive things weren't particularly portable. The rabbits ate my curtains and the christmas tree cables the day after the tree went up, the cat peed in the VHS player.
That's different; they're cute.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
Well.. i would suggest one of these.. http://www.griffintechnology.com/armored
I wouldn't let my son near my iPad until it was in a military-grade, child proof case!
Accidents do happen, but kids (and grown ups) must recongnise that if you don't take preventative measures then there are often consequences. E.g. Why was your son riding a bike with an ipod in his pocket? Why even take that chance?0 -
The £85 one is the 2009 version we had the 2010 16gb one which refurbished is not much less than a new one and to pay that much might as well get a new one IYKWIM:D
I don't know what the difference is between them all. One has a camera and one doesn't?
All I know is that the app I have on iphone for DS2 can be used on the all but I need one with a speker. And because the app was £115, am I hell paying out £200 for an ipod! Its a communications app before anyone asks.0 -
If he lent it to him, he needs to get a grip. Accidents happen. Get over it!0

Sounds more like negligence than an accident.
Would it be an accident to put £200 in notes in your pocket whilst cycling, only for them to fly out and be lost? No, it would be negligence to secure the money correctly.
No way am I going to be this lenient to my little boy. Kids need to learn that expensive gadgets are to be respected. I think parents also need to realise this and not 'lend them' stuff that is liable to be broken easily.0 -

Stop people with the cycling idea it is getting it all wrong:D he was not cycling as in in the road off he went he had in his hand the ipod and took the bicycle to his dad who was at the front of the house in the garage, his bike was at the back of the house in the shed to fix a bit on his bike, he never cycled anywhere:D0
