I'm glad it seems to be sorted, it is quite natural to be a bit annoyed when something gets broken.

But, just to go back a little, you said that you had lent it to your son to on on the net, then he was cycling with it outside. If you allow him to take it outside, then accidents must be expected to happen.
Anyway, glad it seems to be sorted.

Ahhhh indeed I know what I was like when I was younger, I thought having boys would be easier than girls, but no, when they get to that age and want to have technology....the trouble begins! Im gonna ban xbox, playstation, laptops, mobile phones and anything remotely like that in my house, cant be doing with the drama that goes with it lol or I take myself away to some bloomin remote island and let them all fight it out between them:rotfl:

All hell has broken loose here, 11 year old son, dropped his dad's ipod on the kerb whilst cycling it won't switch on, is broken all down the back and his dad not impressed.

Son in his room, me saying no probs we shall take it to the ipod shop, see what they say, it is fine, everyone keep calm.

Son saving for game coming out in November, offered it to his dad, me say no it was an accident, not deliberate, dad saying I have lost years of my songs and contacts, dad hands in pockets and grunting, son in his room out of the way, for crying out loud it is only an ipod! I suppose if it had been mine and my songs then I would feel as bad as his dad but let's all keep calm and see what the damage is first!

If father didn't want the ipod to get broken, he shouldn't have let son use it!

Who is the child here, the son or the father?

It's only a piece of metal that can be easily replaced!! Songs can be replaced but the guilt your son is feeling now, he may never forget and that is a very, very sad thing! Accidents happen!

Sorry yes not cycling but trying to get his bike out to the front where his dad was in the garage to check on something on his bike, he had it in his hand, multi tasking does not suit an 11 year old and trying to get the bike outside and the ipod in hand crash:rotfl:

They certainly do especially with the clumsy clot we have got:rotfl:

You can't really say that if he did not want it to get broken because he never thought as I would have not that an innocent ipod lend to go on youtube would end up with it being broken and smashed to the floor:D

I understand what you are saying, but a sensible person would realise that accidents do happen, wouldn't they? Especially with children involved, and even more so then if it is known that the child is clumsy.

So, I'm not saying he wanted it broken, I'm saying that he should taken that possibility into account and therefore monitored what the child was doing with the ipod, if that makes sense? Being cross is ok but he shouldn't go over the top about it.

Can you tell I have experience of appliances being broken by a clumsy child?

  • My house is currently in meltdown after 8 year old spilled drink over expensive multi device touchscreen remote control. Somehow I've ended up getting the blame!

My DD3 burned a hole in the brand new £300 carpet in the middle room that had been down 3 days!, one of the beasts set the huge range cooker alight resulting in the downstairs being smoke damaged and me being 3 months without a cooker.. 17th December!!! DD4 spilled tea on my lappy last week.. Ive had doors and windows replaced they have broken, spindles on the stairs, toilet seats a and basin in the bathroom, beds, chests of drawers.. why are they not indestructible? wardrobes etc.. I havent done so bad myself though I am bit of a clumsy oaf too.. The rabbits ate my curtains and the christmas tree cables the day after the tree went up, the cat peed in the VHS player.

Things getting broken is part of life.. so long as it was backed up it isnt an isssue and it would be more beneficial for OH to tell DS he realises it was an accident, thank you for telling him.. the info is backed up so safe and hopefully it will be repairable, if not a new one will make a nice christmas present! Poor DS will feel guilty enough breaking it without the over reaction from dad.. though I will admit, I do still remind the children about the fire they caused.. but that was life threatening.. I almost had a heart attack!
