  • Yes I can confirm that is true. I rang them this week to get the free loft insulation, being a Homecare customer, and everything went through OK, appointment for the surveyor end of August.

I am a homecare customer so will give them a ring to enquire about the free insulation.

Need to check the current level of insulation in this house which I have recently bought - it didn't look great at a quick glance.

Does anyone know how strict they are when it comes to the current insulation being less than 60mm as stated in their T&C's?

Yeh...paperwork has arrived, with the same 67.... reference number as given over the phone,Direct Debit amounts as originaly quoted, meter ref' numbers for gas and electric, all that is fine and all within 4 days of cooling off period, well done EDF...so far so good..Only problem, the original wrong name spelling,)its amazing how rearranging 3 letters can give someone a different name)...dont see how they can possibly set up a direct debit from my bank account with the wrong name..and i cant phone them!!!,Not EDF's fault, but this time Virgin Media..phone on the blink Again!...other than that everything else seems to be in order,
Im a bit worried my monthly gas direct debit amount is too low tho,it is based on actual annual consumption, but its £4 a month less than im paying now, could i request EDF to increase my monthly amount from the start?

I switched to EDF on 31 July. It is now 12 August and no contact. The cooling off period expires in 12 days!

Does this portend further problems to come as per others experiences?

Update, all seems to be going well so far,i phoned EDF(admittedly i was on hold for 17mins.!!,but i just put the phone onto speaker and pottered around the kitchen until someone answered).,Anyhow EDF were very helpfull, told me my name miss-spelling had already been rectified(maybe due to an Email i sent them, tho they never did reply to it),and yes no problems increasing my gas direct debit right away to the same amount that im paying BG now....I think now that ive hit "cooling off" period,im just gonna leave things until i get the letter telling me to take meter readings, and im expecting this to still be a couple of weeks away...would that be right?

They do seem to be helpful once you get them. Your online account should be functioning soon. Worth trying to enter some readings as soon as it will accept them, rather than waiting for a request from them. They just emailed me when they wanted a reading. You should see the current balance on your account after the reading is accepted - doesn't happen instantly, but should be there by the following day at the latest. Still waiting to see if my DD payment goes in after they messed it up the first time (or at least claimed that Barclays messed it up!). I did make a payment over the phone and that showed up almost right away. Patience and persistence by the bucket load seem to be a requirement when dealing with EDF!:)

Just logged into MyAccount with EDF - Contract tracker page is now only showing gas contract, electricity has vanished totally!!! However, Account details page and meter read page still show electricity details.
Anyone who switched before me (switch dates 6th July for elec. and 14th July for gas) - has this happened for you???

My cooling off period with EDF ended on May 3. I was not able to successfully enter both gas and electric readings online until June 6.
Eventually got them by phone and it turned out that my start date with electricity was May 17 and gas May 25. They also said I would not get a bill until May 2012 as I was set up for annual billing, which I hadn't requested. Mind you, they also said my first DD payment would go on June 1. Still waiting for one to go - it's supposed to be September 1 now. I ended up making a payment over the phone to cover the cost so far. Proving difficult to even give them money, despite my best efforts! Do see the cost of what I have used when I enter readings online now though.

Ha ha ha, and I blame you:D

I read your thread (yesterday) and decided to post readings. This morning an email arrived informing me I have a bill online. I retrive my bill which is for my first 2 days of supply, 5 weeks ago, and zero consumption at that. My balance has indeed been reduced - by £0.44 for 2 days standing charges. And my DD had been reviewed down slightly (from my correctly calculated and desired amount).

Later edit: No I though that was duel-fuel (statement not clear). The electricity DD had in fact been doubled.:rotfl:

But wait a minute, the DD review procedure says 2 reviews a year.

OK, one review down, one to go, (and only 5 weeks into supply). There is little basis for a change in consumption profile so early and in the middle of summer.

There is another possible explanation, the bill was nothing to do with the readings I submitted yesterday but multiple entering of the transfer readings 5 weeks ago. Who knows?

I predict problems ahead for every customer because there must be a systemic problem with their billing system. I could have avoided it by not listening to victor2, but would it be sound advice not to submit customer readings?
