plus what if....prices come down next year ...go to EDF & you have to pay a penalty to leave

I wouldn't hold my breath, but if that concerns you, you can always go for the fixed until Sep 2012 tariff and have the option to leave without penalty if you complete it. It's a fraction cheaper than the longer term fix as well. I chose it mainly because I've never used EDF before and wanted the option to change again later if it doesn't work out.

Didn't have any problems with mine - all done online with no fuss. British Gas however sent me an email regarding my closing of their contract which suggested once I'd moved house I may want to contact them to set up a new account - !!!!!!? Moving suppliers yes - moving house no!

Things that have gone wrong since I have been an EDF customer:

Applied for an online tariff (OS7) but put onto a standard tariff. (Written into Tand C's) . :rotfl:

Complained on standard tariff so first bill corrected.

Direct Debit set up as ridiculously low amount for gas. Complained in writing. Nothing done to this day. Left with £230 debit balance in summer months.

Product sold as Online Saver 7 with 'MY account' facility. Never able to set it up as not available in Midlands.

Gave notice to Customer Services of switch another Supplier to fix prices. Ignored.

Final bill sent for £290 too much.(10,000 Kwh charged over 7 day period on an estimated account)

Corrected bill sent but units still charged at post increase prices.

Totally incomprehensible final 'corrected' gas bill received.

No electricity final bill yet received, expecting a credit balance.

Impossible to get through on phone,so have been emailing Senior Customer Services Manager. Not much progress.

Just a flavour ! There were other smaller things. I thought I was getting special treatment. :rotfl:

Positive experiences? Yes, giving notice to switch ......eventually.

notbritishgas Looks like you applied around the same time as me..has your postie been yet?any sign of a welcome pack?
Im getting twitchy, worried i may miss the "cool off" date, did some research last night..EDF totaly slated on the review sites,

One of the biggest issues being that "welcome packs" were not delivered until after the cooling off period...too late then,I want my pack now so that i can make "an informed decision"...I spoke with Scottish gas rep yesterday, apparantly they may offer incentives such as cash credit to accounts to keep customers,

backfoot, sounds like you have had an awful experience, and you have highlighted one of my biggest worries...ending up in Debit to them,I feel Scottish gas have got my monthly DD "spot on",im in credit in the summer, and it all evens out in the winter...im also concerned when reading that EDF will hike up monthly DD;s after only one month or so,...Oh Dear..what have i done? :(

I didn't get my pack until after the cooling off time. I applied to EDF just before the end of my fixed tariff with EOn. They said they would not do anything until the end of the cooling off period, which would take me past the end of my existing tariff, so it was exactly what I wanted.
So, it's not in their interest to do anything until it's too late for you to change your mind at no cost to you. I'd persevere with EDF, they'll probably get there in the end. You could try phoning them now to tell them you've changed your mind. If you're very patient (like use a handsfree phone and do something else while on hold) you'll get through, in my experience. Email them as well from their website, you may not get a reply, but you will get an automated response, which indicates the email has entered their system.

Thanks victor2...seems sad,but im realy anxious about transferring...deep down i want to stay with Scottish gas,but their prices (fixed rate one especialy)seem to be the highest around...EDF(ironicaly )for my area are the lowest around....If I go with Scottish gas fixed,im facing a monthly increase of £26,if i go with EDF,..my gas will (allegedly)go down by £7 a month, and electricity will only go up by £8 a month!
EDF guy on the phone said i would receive written confirmation of all this within 4 or 5 days...nothing yet tho.
I do have another option of sticking with Scottish gas on one of their online tariffs, very similar prices to EDF,but not Fixed, and only for 1year.I was hoping for the security of a decent fixed rate.(but not one with a load of hassle)

Have you managed to register and logon to your MyAccount yet?

If I have understood your previous posts you applied by telephone approximately 6 days ago - and have an account number, hopefully starting with "67" and have subsequently corrected name typos?

My own transfer (online via TheEnergyShop) transfered 100% successfully with the expected 4 to 6 weeks timeframe - without having *had* to speak with Edf once - just as well as it proved impossible.

Looking at my paperwork, my "welcome pack" covering letter was dated 2 days after I initiated my switch - not after the expiry of cooling off - and received approximately 7 days later.

This is entirely your decision. You are still within "cooling-off" but also *probably* haven't quite allowed enough "postal" time to receive your "welcome pack".

    Up to you.

Thanks jalexa,Yes the wrong name issue has been resolved, and this has enabled me to log onto "my account",but theres nothing i can do once there, and no information regarding direct debit accounts/amounts,or confirming what tariff ive applied for,a lot of my concerns are based on the fact if the guy got my name wrong, then he couldve got my energy usage and application tariff wrong too!...maybe i should try and phone them again and see if someone can confirm my application..I dont want to leave it until its too late and find im possibly signed up to the wrong tariff.
And yes, possibly Royal Mail is still pigeon posting my pack.I just like to see things confirmed in Black n White

In my case the MyAccount opening screen (always) was called MyAccount -Contract Tracker. If you do not have that I think you would be right to be concerned. BTW the MyAccount - Contract tracker workflow turned out to be about 10 days behind "actual progress".

Also the reverse of the "welcome letter" is a copy of the contract details.

(in my case the "contract details" didn't refer to FP 2014, though the MyAccount details now do)

Perhaps a key thing for you to ensure if you plan to stay is to ensure an email address is registered and working. I received a "confirm your email" email 5 days after initiating the switch, but then I applied online with an email address. Not 100% sure about telephone applications.

Another thing, make sure your "accurate" annual consumption in kWhrs is lodged because that is used to calculate the Direct Debit payment. I submitted mine online with the switch and Edf calculated the monthly payment correct to the £.

So it can be done. But maybe I got lucky.

    Hi Mama
No sign of anything through the post. I am not too bothered as no intention of cancelling the switch:(
I am still hoping that I will be as lucky as jalexa.
