I got a message via My Account asking me to enter my opening gas readings. Which the system wouldn't let me do via My Account. Upon phoning up instead

There is also a webform outside MyAccount for entering readings. Possibly less "intelligent", possibly equally "stupid".
  • EDF - not fit for purpose. Like most of us on here (and Martin, incidentally) we get seduced by low prices without thought for the reasons why. If I charged EDF my hourly rate for time spent listening to their godawful muzak whilst waiting for them to PICK UP THE BLOODY PHONE I would be going on holiday again next week.

    Registration in progress
We’re delighted that you’ve chosen EDF Energy as your energy provider. We’ll now register your contract with us.

Ive "progressed" to the above message on my contract tracker now that my cooling off period has expired, was feeling relaxed about it all yesterday, cos it looked like all was going to plan,But after reading this im now worried about the possibility of them massively increasing my direct debits...especialy if they do it before Scottish gas have rebated me..

Ah, I tried that. It requires you to enter readings for each account, starting with electricity-no way to skip through to gas. I'd already done electricity readings a few days before when I went on supply, so I tried giving the same reading-it wouldn't accept it. I tried a reading 10 units higher-it said that I had already submitted a reading and still wouldn't accept it. At that point I did the unthinkable and picked up the phone.
Clearly, whoever designed 'My Account' was not a consumer of gas and electricity, and forgot to do any actual user testing.

OK, we're having a bit of fun, but also (between the lines) trying to be helpful.

The single best piece of advice I can give is that *you* are aware of your typical historical annual consumptions in kWhrs and that Edf is aware of that, (mine was correctly passed during the switch by TheEnergyShop) and the initial Direct Debit was calculated by Edf correct to the £.

I found out today there is only an annual bill and review (in April to align with the annual consumption profile) and (supposedly) only one interim review. Knowing what I know now, though it is my usual advice to provide regular customer reads, I don't think I will provide more until the Edf billing system is sorted.

I know my typical consumption, I know what I am paying, the rates are fixed, a really extreme winter excepted I will end the year roughly in balance. As long as Edf don't scre*w up the interim review.

This is getting very depressing - I'm obviously paying for all the rest of you - MyAccount now shows a credit of £321 !! so I presume that they are about to take another DD !!
(I've actually used ~ £40 in elec. and gas since switch over)
On the basis of jalexa's experience I suppose they have probably reviewed my DD upwards ...and decided to collect it!!:(

EDIT - Can't even get into MyAccount now.

Well, this link might entertain you all as well ....

Actually, I might start a new thread about it!
  • Lol. So EDFs total inefficiency is nothing new; it can now be traced back to at least 2003!

This is the sort of thing you would only expect to happen if Homer Simpson had somehow been appointed to be EDF's Head of IT Services. :D

It's probably time for you to Twitter the Twits (@edfenergycs) as it appears you are definitely not alone in this (some of the posts to EDF on Twitter are bloody hilarious!) that is of course unless you want to spend the rest of your life on hold to them on the phone. Contact Kerry or Tina via email (twitter@edfenergy.com) and see if you can get any sense that way?

The really worrying thing is that this country is still allowing these incompetent !!!!!! to play with Nuclear fuel!

    It gets better (or worse).
I just got an email response from them to a query I made around 3 weeks ago, it begins:

    'Dear Criag Foster'
Now my name isn't 'Criag', it isn't even Craig, or Foster, or indeed anything remotely similar.
Presumably the real Craig Foster has an email commencing 'Dear Mr Macman'...whether he gets my bills or not remains to be seen.
i don't see how this can be a 'system error', it' s just untrained, demotivated staff, and no proper management input whatsoever.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
