    Well Cooking mama,
My previous post was a little premature, the postman has just called and delivered two EDF letters, one for gas and t'other for leccy.

They detail the contract numbers and the tariff, fixed price 2014, they also give the DD amounts which seem reasonable, and details of the supply eg meter point reference.

So at the moment things are looking OK (oh dear hope I haven't spoilt it now)

Just registered for online access, no problems.
As jalexa stated earlier the first screen you see is the contract tracking one which should show how the application is going on.

Also on this screen it staes the cooling off period of 12 days, in my case from 2 aug til 14 aug.

If you cannot see this cooking mama then I would ring them as something may be wrong.

And just to confuse me further,British gas have offered me £75 credit to my gas account if i stay..this means their websaver 12 tarriff would now save me £80,in the first year compared to EDF,along with almost £400 worth of free insulation..
only drawback...websaver 12 is not Fixed..tho their price promise is,and id get the £75 and free insulation with that one too...Aaagghh...nothing in life is simple is it.
PS..turns out we will still get free insulation even if i switch, cos we have BG homecare insurance for the boiler.

I have had a successful switch from E.ON to EDF, IF I ignore the on-line account fiasco!
If I'd just initiated the switch, phoned in the meter readings and then gone on holiday for 4 weeks, I would have come back to a more-or-less perfectly executed switch.
However, I made the mistake (I'm not alone) of trying to monitor the process via the on-line account. This is a joke.

alanwsg..I think thats where ive gone wrong...thinking back to 10years or so ago when i last switched to british gas from Scottish power,I arranged the switch over the phone, then everything else just took care of itself..I think this time i'm trying to be too involved..and thinking too hard about it...all sites consistently state i will be better off by between £150 and £230 a year with EDF(depending on what BG tariff i compare)
So(thankfully)im working a 12hour shift tomorrow, wont have time to think about gas or electricity(or be anywhere near my home computer)..so il just keep my head down and hope EDF deliver(literally).
There thats it...decision made,im sticking with my EDF switch...fingers crossed theyre switching me on to the correct tariff;)

Hiya notbritishgas yes that sounds like the same screen that i can already access with the 67... number given to me over the phone, but i cant put in any meter readings or anything, when i try i just get a message stating "this account number is no longer valid? perhaps it should read..not active or something?
Anyhow ive decided to sit it out and hope for the best,at the end of the day British gas prices are too high..EDF are acceptable, and with winter fast approaching(starts at the end of August up here ) Id best act now.
As ive mentioned im working all day tomorrow,if no paperwork by the time postie has been on Friday I will try and phone them simply to make sure im on the right tariff..thanks for everyones help, sorry ive been so long and drawn out coming to my decision, but its serious stuff this money saving ;)
Heres hoping all our switches go smoothly..I will report on mine as progress(fingers crossed)is made.

In my case the MyAccount opening screen (always) was called MyAccount -Contract Tracker. If you do not have that I think you would be right to be concerned. BTW the MyAccount - Contract tracker workflow turned out to be about 10 days behind "actual progress".

Also the reverse of the "welcome letter" is a copy of the contract details.

(in my case the "contract details" didn't refer to FP 2014, though the MyAccount details now do)

Perhaps a key thing for you to ensure if you plan to stay is to ensure an email address is registered and working. I received a "confirm your email" email 5 days after initiating the switch, but then I applied online with an email address. Not 100% sure about telephone applications.

Another thing, make sure your "accurate" annual consumption in kWhrs is lodged because that is used to calculate the Direct Debit payment. I submitted mine online with the switch and Edf calculated the monthly payment correct to the £.

So it can be done. But maybe I got lucky.

Thanks again jalexa..dunno how i missed this post earlier, yes(now that ive checked)my screen is also My account contract tracker with no mention of what the actual contract is,..so reassuring that its the same as yours, and yes i did give accurate KW readings,Scottish gas had recently sent my annual reports for gas and electricity usage from June 2010 til June 2011...so those came in very handy(wouldnt have had a clue otherwise.)..I will also bare in mind your posting about EDF getting direct debits right(just in case),suppose good thing is,i should get a decent credit return from Scottish gas that could be paid into my EDF account if the hike my direct debits over the winter,Its actualy a relief to have finaly come to the decision that im gonna take my chance with EDF2014.:)

Yes I can confirm that is true. I rang them this week to get the free loft insulation, being a Homecare customer, and everything went through OK, appointment for the surveyor end of August.

We've only just switched. Was super quick, everything seems fine so far. Their website is a bit annoying but only gotta go on once a month to submit meter readings.

in a ideal world yes it would be great to have no contact except for entering your meter readings , but if you have a direct debit/payment problem, you'll need to contact them via phone and that's where the problems and frustrations set in.
