In the summer she started the Lighterlife programme, and by November last year was down to 12 stone. Now I know it's a drastic programme, only eating shakes/bars, etc, and taking exercise, and the principal of this is to get fast results, whilst removing yourself from your relationship with food, etc. and working out why that relationship has become destructive/dependent, etc. I don't know all the ins and outs, but basically you can only drink black tea/coffee, water or their own 'juice', and at each weigh in meeting the cousellor takes a urine sample from you to check for keytones, which basically shows whether you have 'cheated'. Since my friend had both back and knee problems due to her weight, she is now painfree, and a different woman on the inside and the outside.

    Whilst a very low cal diet isn't for everyone, for those who feel they cannot control their eating any other way, it clearly can work. Incidentally, her average weight loss was 4lb a week, with initial losses of 8-9lb a week. It's not for your average person, and at a premium cost of £66 p/wk isn't moneysaving either, but then again, she wasn't buying any other food.

    I'm not advocating it, but thought it was an interesting flip-side story.

    My friend did excatly the same weight loss plan, wherever she went she had to drink copious amounts of water, then the shakes, my friend was close to 25 stone and took this diet on as a last ditch attempt because so many others had been tried..........she was knackered, looked pale, seemed to be very tetchy, desperate, stuck to it and lost a lot of weight(not sure how much as it was not discussed) came off it because of the cost of it, as you say a lot per week, the fidliness of it all and all the weight came back on......in quadruple speed.....it is too much to ask from an adult I think.

    i think thats the trouble with faddy diets you come off them and the weight goes straight back on when you start eating "normal food" again....rather than tackling the root of the problem which in most peoples cases are choosing/eating the wrong foods and portion sizes are way to big. sort out the root of the problem ie choose healthy eating and theres no need for yoyo/faddy dieting for the rest of your life!

    Hope you don't mind but i'd like to join in this thread.

    I have already lost just under 3 stone and still have another 5 ish to go.
    I am doing my own diet thing and just weighing in with nurse every fortnight for some accountability.
    I am a binge/compulsive eater and still binge on some days of the week (getting less and less now) I have tried phentermine and apidex and they helped a bit but i think some were fake.
    I aim to be under 14 stone by June 1st and under 12 stone by Christmas.

    Slowly slowly catchy monkey :)

    Anyway, enough of my babble - i look forward to chatting to you all and sharing in your success stories :)

    It is true what you say, it is like the atkins, great fast results but can anyone really live/eat like that for the rest of their lifes?:D

    Mine is portion sizes, being diabetic it is not sweets,chocs, biscuits and I hardly ever drink, I got this size by eating LARGE:rotfl: so now and in the future I have to address that....do I really need to fill my plate so high?;)

    I also think that these faddy diets make you ill,quick fix but no long term solution.....I have learnt a lot about my eating habits apart from the portion sizes which are large yesterday and today I have struggled beyond words to just 'stuff food in'.....couldn't work out why after a month it had got ridiculously hard all of a sudden.....it is the time of the month .....and now I know I can ride through it, resist and not give in around this time....

    I am not sure had I known it would take htis long and be this hard that I would have started 4 weeks ago this healthy eating lark but now 4 weeks on and 8.5 lb loss I feel it has been worth it, even though the time it takes can drive me insane:D

    Last year I wore a black swimsuit on the beach with a sarong....this year not to scare anyone off the beach I will still wear a swimsuit and not a bikini:rotfl: but it will be a smaller one, brightly coloured....tourquoise or how about yellow or lime green?:rotfl: :rotfl:

    I am determined NOT TO HIDE THIS YEAR ON THE BEACH!!!:j :j

    i think mine started when i left home at 18, i grew up in the countryside...there were no shops nearby for miles..i spent the first 18 years of my life eating what my mum fed me which was very healthy and all grown in the garden i just didnt eat sweets or crisps or chips because my mum didnt have them in the house had never even eaten at a restaurant till i was 18 and i was slim :j then i moved out :rolleyes: had a good disposable income and i revelled in all the things i grew up without and piled the weight on :eek: i ate everything in sight because it was a novelty for me to try new things...if only i knew then what i know now :rolleyes:
