Happy Birthday Loopy (when is/was it?) Have a lovely time tonight :D

RetiredLady I read your post and I don't see a woman who's shameful. I see a woman with huge amounts of courage and determination and you should feel proud of yourself!! I'm quite sure your OH loves every inch of you and would be shocked to know how you feel. Do share it with him so that he can help, support and encourage you on your weight-loss journey.

Angchris, you have the right attitude to succeed - go, girl :D

I hope those of you who were starving by mid-afternoon, managed to wait till teatime, lol. A cup of Options usually bridges the gap for me and it's very low calorie (for those who are counting).

Hi Gargoyle and welcome to the thread. Any help you need just yell. There are loads of recipes which are all low in fat so suitable for anyone. Go to post 1 and follow the link.

Some tests and studies from The truth about food series on BBC2.

just posted this earlier in health but perhaps I should have put it here?

Can water make you feel full?
Water can make you feel full but only if you eat it with food e.g. a soup. In this experiment shown in the film below, they compared 2 guys one drinking the same amount of water alongside a meal of solid food, the other had the same amount of food and water together as a soup. With the soup, the whole soup stayed in the stomach, whereas with the water and food separated, the water passed straight through and the stomach was not nearly as full.

Can Dairy help you lose fat?

Low fat dairy is good. The calcium binds to fat and it is excreted. They actually show real results of calcium and how much fat is passed, using blocks of fat to illustrate how much the people who were test subjects passed in poo!!! It is amazing just how much fat they passed.

...special chow mein  anyone know how many calories is in it? i ate untill i was full then put the rest back in the container to take home for todays lunch. :A whereas before i would of scoffed duck n pancakes for starter and then sweet n sour with egg fried rice so at least i did try and make an effort :D :rotfl:
i was tempted in matalan yesterday to buy a stepper machine for £25 which shows calories used etc are these any good?

Calories in the chow mein will depend on what was in it and how much you had of course, but the average beef chow mein (100gms portion) is approximately 500 cals as far as I can see. Good for you choosing not to have all the extras - give yourself a pat on the back:D

It's my daughter's birthday today and, amongst other things, I have bought her a LTT stepper. She's delighted and swears they work miracles!!!!

Hi and welcome to Hollydays and Jojilufc.

Jo, you've joined and need do nothing else except post whenever you feel the urge :D I would suggest though, that a SW class combined with this site is the best way to go, especially at the beginning.

Thanks. I've been lurking for a few days, finally plucked up courage to join in!!!

I was all set to join SW last night, even cut out a £1 off membership coupon from local paper and everything and then found out (quite unexpectantly) that my nana had just died.

Was a bit of a shock so didn't get there. I definatly will next week tho.

Will use her as a bit of an incentive, as a lady who lost 15 stone, and kept most of it off even though she was 89...and everyone buys her choccies etc all the time!!!

Just looked at that and the qoute bit is not like everyone elses (duh).

How do I get it to look like that if I want?
  • Hi all. Well I seem to have had a better week this week - more controlled. Well, until last night that is, but I knew it would be a difficult one. Saw an ex boyfriend (well sort of on-off boyfriend but far too long a story for here). Drank a bottle of wine (yes, a bottle - 3 bottles between us but I tried to drink slowly so sure I only drank a bottle). Knew I would be drinking alot so had a jacket potato with a bit of low fat cream cheese and salad at lunchtime. Didn't really eat dinner but snacked on the wrong things - tortilla chips, toast and pate. Before going out I did an hour with a personal trainer at the gym and an hour cardio so hopefully limited some of the damage. Had a great night so don't regret it and feeling just a little under par today so haven't been very hungry! Had banana for breakfast, apple mid morning, HM veggie soup with toast at lunchtime and a satsuma, and this evening a small portion of pasta with a bit of pesto and a little bit of freshly grated parmesan. Yummy.

Didn't make the gym this evening but will go tomorrow and try and do a longer session. Still think I will lose the 600g I put on last week and maybe (with a bit of luck) a bit more.
Proud to be dealing with my debts

Jo - Sorry to hear about your nana.
    Loopy - Happy Birthday!
and Suggs - We'd looooove to see you in a bikini :D

Phew, I'm not long home and glad to be sitting down! Havent eaten yet so going to make some porridge in a bit. Having a really bad time with IBS at the minute and dont really want to eat but porridge should be bland enough. Today I discovered M&S Count on us Chocolate (yes chocolate!!) biscuit sticks. Each stick is only 1 syn on red or green (SW) and they are just delish - especially if you suck them to ensure you have all the chocolate flavour out of them :rotfl: They taste like Bourbon biscuits and if I remember correctly they were approx 99p for the box. A handy box to have around for when the munchies strike and also good for keeping in your drawer at work.

Kids in bed already - told them it was almost 9pm instead of 8pm hehe!! DH is away to Dublin on a stag weekend and no doubt full of the black stuff already! Me, I'm going to get something to eat, have a browse on here then go to bed. I love nights like this!!

Jo - You can either click on the quote button or copy the text, put [ QUOTE=name] before the txt and [ /QUOTE] after it . HTH
