Hi and welcome to Hollydays and Jojilufc.
Jo, you've joined and need do nothing else except post whenever you feel the urgeI would suggest though, that a SW class combined with this site is the best way to go, especially at the beginning.
Holly there are loads of websites where you can get calorie info for free. Otherwise you should be able to get a book from any good bookshop I would think. In my opinion, you would be able to lose weight quite well on 1500 a day and your OH could manage on 2000. Drink lots of water, and make sure the food you do eat is varied and includes lots of fruit and veg.I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
Hello there
I've finally got the courage up to post hereShort story of why:
Back in November 2005, I was 10 stone, a size 8-10 and it had taken me several months to get up to that weight (from a low of 7 1/2 stone in February caused by a combination of gallstones and a hospital stay). December 2005 I was put on the antidepressant mirtazapine, and put on a ton of weight... by November 2006 I was 16 1/2 stone. The mirtazapine stopped working, and over Christmas my weight was stable. Last week I've been put on a different antidepressant and due to side effects am now 15 stone 4 (being unable to eat makes it easy to lose weight).
Now the side effects of the medication have lessened (I can eat again!), I want to lose more weight and get back down to 12 stone (I'm 5'10", so that's comfortably in the healthy range for someone my height). Exercise (even walking for more than a few minutes) is extremely painful and puts me in bed for a few days, so that will have to wait until I've lost a bit through diet.
I best stop now before this turns into an essayPurple Penguin Power!

Hi Danni, welcome to the thread.
It sounds as if you've had a rough time over the last year or so. I hope you're feeling better in yourself now. We can motivate and encourage you on here, but do you have a plan to follow (Slimming World, Weight Watchers etc) or are you doing your own thing?I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
Hi everyone
Did anyone else watch that programme on BB2 tonight about diet and science?
They examined different myths. Such as:-
They took two friends - one was 10kg underweight and the other 10kg over. They both said the thinner one had a high metabolic rate and ate more food and more rubbish than the heavier one. They tested their metobolic rates and heavier people have higher metabolic rates. It turned out that the heavier one was eating more calories than she needed and the thinner one was eating less than she needed. So keep a food diary.
They took 3 guys who loved snacks. They fasted for 12 hours then locked them up so that they couldn't smell any other food. One was fed a more carb based meal, one a more fat based meal and the other a more protien based meal. The one with the protien based meal felt fuller for longer.
They repeated the experiment about water with food/just before food, filling you up and then took MRI scans so that they could see what was happening. The water stretched the stomach and then went right through and didn't fill up. Then they fed one team chicken and brocolli with a glass of water and the other had the same meal, but put into a blender with the water and made into soup. The soup eaters were fuller and the MRI scan showed that the soup stayed in the stomach making it feel full.
A guy ate a litre of low yogurt a day and then tests carried out on his excrement (I couldn't watch the tests). They found that his excrement contained a lot of the fat and this was not stored on his body.
Using all of the above (protein at meals, portion control, low fat homemade soups, low fat milk and yogurts) they helped a woman lose between 1 and 2 pounds a week and change her eating habits and energy levels for life.
Another in the series will be on next Thursday and they will be looking at whether water really is good for the skin.
Just remembered what else they said:-
At a barbecue, don't be the one that has to try every dish. Also, that we eat more when we don't think what we are doing ie eating popcorn at the cinema. They had two groups. One had medium buckets of popcorn and others large buckets and they ate what they had. Half of each group had 2 week old popcorn thay they said tasted awful, but they still ate the popcorn. Always go small as we eat what we have.

Hello everyone - just need to vent again!
My daughter invited me out for a rare treat and we went to London to see a film at the Covent Garden Odeon.
I have been to the cinemas where I live and haven't had any problems, but the seats in this one were tiny!!
I could not fit in!!
I felt so embarrasedand did not want to make a fuss and draw attention to myself. I sort of lurked at the back and eventually perched on a little stool that the usher would normally sit on. It was so uncomfortable and my back and knees hurt so much that I could hardly walk back to the underground station!
I just really really wanted to cry, but I did not want to upset my daughter.
I am just praying that this time I will really manage to lose the weight. I have over 15 stone to lose.
I am just feeling really tired right now but just felt I had to tell someone! I am even too embarrased to tell my husband!!
Goodnight All

oh Marion don't feel bad! That's just awful I really feel for you. Your posts on here have always been so positive about what you are trying to achieve and how you are trying to do it. I've been to that cinema and I think they have put in slightly smaller seats so they can get more people in there - and they still charge you more than you would pay in another one! Please don't dwell on it, just focus on the day that you will go back there and enjoy yourself. YOu don't need to tell anyone if you don't want to - in fact why not wait until that day you go back with your husband and you'll be able to tell him how much you've achieved?0

Marion, just forget about it if you can and try not to turn to food because are feeling down about this. You can't turn the clock back, but you are doing something about losing weight now and will get plenty of support from people here when you have bad days.
Perhaps you can try to turn it into a positive experience by remembering how you felt, when you think about overdoing it on the wrong food type? You can lose half a stone every month and you will feel better with every lb that comes off.
A friend of mine was really down when we were larking about at work and held the door on a room a guy was trying to get out of. He said "I bet that is (her name) blocking this door". I don't think he meant because she was overweight, but she took it that way and was upset about it. Then she went on a diet and got all the weight off and it stayed off.RENTING?
