  • Hi all,

I've about 8 stone to lose (again), got 1 stone away from target once about 6?! years ago but put it all back on and more... basically been down and back up again 2 or 3 times since then... My success before has always come when I've joined a slimming club even though I've never followed thier diet.

I was diagnosed with PCOS about 6 months ago and been told and read lots that I need to follow a low GI diet, so I joined a Rosemary Conley class but went once and didn't feel comfortable at all, think because they are done in large halls cos of the classes and other members seemed ALOT older than me... Nothing against old people just didn't gel with any of them... didn't like the instructor either.

So started again last week at home with bf, put nice big chart on the wall with guide line for where I want to be when we go to Jamiaca for SIL wedding in October. First weigh-in this morning and I've lost 7lbs, pretty pleased with myself as didn't manage to get to the gym.

Anyway, to my question... (thanks for sticking with me btw) Has anyone tried any online diet programmes? Tesco etc... I really feel like I need the support and something daily would be great, I know I can do it just need the gentle push sometimes. I work from home and alot of my work is on the laptop so think it would work for me. Plus, I'd like the support with the low GI, it's really difficult trying to get my head round eating the pretty high calorie foods like chick peas etc whereas before I would have tried to avoid them and some meal ideas from people who actually cook them rather than 'recipes' if you know what I mean...

Thanks for sticking with me, hope someone can point me in the right direction! Btw, think this thread is GREAT!!! But need something like this but more?? IYSWIM

Kassellgirl everything you need to know is in your book, but if you need any help with how to put meals together, I can recommend the magazine. It's always got a 7 day planner in it and is a big help with motivation too - the weight loss stories are amazing. Don't fret about not losing more, I've known people who didn't start to lose well until their second or even third week - but I promise you, it really does work.

Are you eating enough? If you don't really believe you can eat as much as they say and try to cut down, you will find that your body hangs on to the calories you do eat in case there's going to be a famine, so get stuck in. Have lots of free foods, don't forget your healthy extras (be sure to have 2 Bs and at least 1 A daily), have a few syns on top and drink 2 litres of water a day and watch the weight drop off :D

SuzieW well done, a great loss!

Loopyloo I think it was probably more a lack of planning than willpower. It would have been better for you to take a packed slimmer-friendly lunch so that you wouldn't have been tempted by the sandwiches. You'll be better prepared next time, so look on it as a learning experience, and plan a good day for tomorrow!

Alyssa Oh dear, that was a bad couple of days - best forgotten I think. Day One tomorrow???

Honey An easy way to look at SE is to use 3 same sized bowls or plates. Fill one with red and green foods (steak and SW chips for instance) and the other 2 with superfree veg/salad. If you want more you can have it again in the same proportions. Still have your HEs and still have your syns, but if the syn values differ for a red and green day, you must count the higher value.
Snacks, starters or puds need to be superfree foods.
    Hope that makes it easier.

Suggs consider your slap kissed better ;)

Kerry not to worry, it'll have taught you something useful I'm sure, so forget it and move forward. I'm always convinced that what doesn't kill us does us good, so that little gain will have a positive result if you have a positive attitude towards it.

Off for a long, calming, bubbly bath now, I've had a funny old day (as Arkwright would say, lol).
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

evening all, can I ask about lentils, pulses, kidney beans etc I read they are high in calories so to have a butternut squash soup with lentils how many calories would that be for dinner and how many should I use? xxxx

I had my second weigh in this evening and have lost another 4lbs this weeks so am really please as have lost over half a stone in just two weeks. Have been following slimming world plans with my group of friends then we meet up every wednesday to get weighed, we each put £2 in a jar every week and then whoever ha lost the most amount over a 4 week period gets to keep all the money. So far i am in the lead and as there should be almost £60 in the jar by the end of the first 4 weeks i would really love to win it to buy and put away next vouchers for when i hit my target weight so i can go and buy myself some lovely new clothes. There is another 2 weeks to go so keep your fingers crossed. Speak to you next week with my next update.

    Hi all

Well done poppielia - 8 pounds in two weeks is excellent, you should get the kitty without any problem. I hope it's this thread that is giving you an advantage over the others. :)

Suggs - don't laugh, I'm already having to convince DH that he won't have to wear any spangled shirts (a la Strictly Come Dancing!). It wasn't easy tonight, but it's early days - have to find a way to change the five left feet we seem to have between us into an evenly matched pair!

Honey - you asked whether having all your syns could be affecting your weight loss. When I attended SW classes, the consultants often said to newer members that they should have between 10 and 15 syns a day so that they would have more flexibility when they neared their goal, as people often find it difficult to lose those last few pounds. I got to within half a stone of the goal that I'd set myself and I just couldn't shift it, no matter what I did - success express hadn't been introduced then, and I've heard good things about it, so it's worth giving that a go.

Victory - I've looked up the calorie values of the items you mentioned in my Rosemary Conley book - red kidney beans are 28 calories per 1 oz (28g), lentils are the same, and butternut squash is 10 calories per 1 oz. Hope that helps.

Hi *flutterby* - I haven't done Tesco's or Weightwatchers on line, but I'm sure they can work as well as attending a class IF you are honest with yourself. It would be very easy to kid yourself you're doing it but at the end of the day you'd only be cheating yourself. I find this thread just as good as anything you pay for! :)

Tallgirl and Edimew - I had my 7th glass of wine tonight. I had planned not to drink during the week, but I really felt like one. DH offered me a top up but I couldn't, as it would take me over the 7! Edimew you really will have to avoid those Dutch bars and male friends! ;)

I've been religiously drinking 2 litres of water every day this week and spending a lot of time in the loo! [STRIKE]I'm really hoping for a good result this week[/STRIKE]. I didn't say that - last week I said that and it had the opposite effect!

Have a good day tomorrow :)

  • Hi Flutterby!
i've been using the WW online programme - i like it because i can sneak into it each day at work and see how i'm doing, and it's really easy to use cos they have a massive online database with all the points values in. Then if i fancy a muffin or something that someone has brought to work i can just check i've got enough points.... bingo!

you do have to be really honest and keep maintaining it though, but as long as you stick to it i think it works well. they have quite a few online recepies and articles too.

    good luck!

Late weigh in report, sorry! Couldn't get online as I was being 'Mum's Taxi' for my 4 urchins. This week I lost 1.5lb. Not the meteoric result I was hoping for, but it's still a loss. Gym 3 times a week (and it's killing me!) but I'm determined to persevere. Starting to notice a bodyshape change already, so that's a result at least.

Good luck everyone else for the coming week. This is the time I start to lose that initial impetus and will be a bit weak willed, so I'm trying very hard to stay on the straight and narrow. If I'm allowing myself anything extra to eat each day it has to be a healthy option. Today it was a banana sandwich!

I'm all stocked up on Slimfast at the 1/3 off price from Superdrug, so I should have enough now to keep me going for the rest of the month at least.
One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

  • poppelia, I really like that idea!!

I had a good day yesterday (I think), but I went out for tea last night. I got home late from work and the plasterers were in so cooking was already out of the window! We went to the pub and i ALWAYS have bbq cajum chicken with chips and coleslaw. I resisted though and while i didnt go for the salad, I had minted lamp and roast veg & baby potatoes so I'm guessing that it wasnt THAT bad (???!!!). We'll see in wiegh in day though!
