Yes it can:j I am at that time of the month also and I know from before I put on 6 to 10 lb:j just on water retention, seems massive amount doesn't it ? but when I actually come on then it disappears completely:j so maybe you have def lost more than 1 lb but the water retention is there and when it goes it will show more :j

1lb is fantastic you know it is, you kept to it(something to be very proud of) you did not gain and you lost 1 lb towards your target weight....couldn't ask for more, keep with it, 1 lb is worth it:D :D

  • Hello :hello:

I am in a fantastically good mood today because I have lost 3 lbs! Didn't start gym sessions til Wednesday or SlimFast til Thursday, so am very pleased. Also trousers today are a whisker bigger (or rather, not such a snug fit!) so all going the right way.

Plus, had fab time at the gym - so far been Wed, Fri and Sat, and should be going again tonight :A . Was planning on going Sunday for a swim but Sat pm decided I would carry the weekly shop (inc. 6 2L bottles of water) home - about a mile walk! Still suffering today :o Still, lesson learnt - I am not supergirl! :rotfl:

Hello Ms London (or should that be Ms Sydney?) Looking at your previous posts you've actually lost a stone - regardless how long it's taken, so you're already doing really well. Will be great when you've cracked your 12 stone barrier - only 2lbs to go! :j

ftbworried can only echo what Victory has said - 1lb is great and there can be all sorts of reasons why you haven't lost more - muscle from the gym, TOTM, or even that your body needs a few more calories for motivation? I don't know how tall you are, but 1100 cals a day seems really low to me...

kberry_78 are you combining your diet with exercise? If not, maybe this could be the way to get your body losing again? Well done on your losses so far, and great pledge!

Also well done loopy loo :T Tallgirl don't feel disappointed - at least you didn't gain :T and you stuck to your wine challenge so a good week :T :T

Finally in reference to Sarymclary post about Lighterlife (something I've never heard of before - sounds like it's def not for the faint hearted tho!) I think what's important to note is that it worked for her friend. Likewise for the Daily Mail journalist, her losses averaged out at 2lb a week, and overall she lost over a stone - considering she started out as a size 12, I'm guessing this would have had a massive difference on her figure. Plus with all her exercise she may have built muscle which weighs more (although I'm not convinced you can build muscle with only 500 cals a day).

A couple of years ago I went on a 'money diet' - I was at uni and ran out of money so spent £5 a week on fruit and veg from the market, and about £5 on Tesco value soup, cereal and milk. Breakfast was cereal, lunch soup and supper avocado salad. For snacks I had raw green beans (perfect substitute for crisps but they've gotta be very fresh) or raw carrots ... Needless to say lost loads of weight. When I got my finances back in order, it took 3-4 months to put on what I lost, even though for 3 of those months I stopped being active as uni finished for summer and I took to loafing around, and being chauffeur driven by my then boyfriend! So weight doesn't always come back faster than lost, and I probably could have easily kept it off, but as I didn't actually go on the 'diet' for aesthetic reasons, I wasn't trying to keep it off and revelled in having enough cash for sweets! :D

With the massive diversity in size, eating habits, life style and attitude no one diet will work for everyone. For many a lifestyle change is needed, eg SW which aims at keeping you on its plan for life. For others, they just need a kick start which is where quick weight loss plans work. This thread is supposed to be for all slimmers, regardless of what plan you're on, so whilst everyone's entitled to their opinion, can we start being a little more acceptive of everyone's different plans please?

This isn't a rant  - please don't think it is, just think it would be a bit nicer if certain plans weren't categorically told they're WRONG when they've clearly worked for others :D

BTW I know it's only been five days but so far SlimFast for me is brilliant - I have loads of energy, the food tastes great and is filling, I'm spurred to go to the gym, and I feel very smug cos I'm not tempted to cheat - oh, and of course I'm losing weight!!!

Hi everyone and congratulations to everyone who has posted their results!

I had a disappointing weigh in - I put on 0.5 pounds. It was a shock because I have been so good all week - I really expected a good loss this week!

I will not let it get me down however - my SW coach said that this will happen from time to time and that it will "catch up" next week. Sure hope she is right!

I think one of the hardest things is to thicken my skin and try not to let what other people think affect me. I am by far the largest person in my group and I KNOW that some of the members will not believe that I stuck 100% to the plan this week and still put on weight. But I really really did!!

Hopefully better news next week! Also I have bought a bike - does anybody know if there is some sort of weight limit for tyres? Wouldn't want them to burst like a balloon when I set my backside down on that rather narrow looking seat!! :rotfl: :rotfl:
When life hands you lemons, ask for tequilla and salt and give me a call!!!

    Me too. :o

Been good all week, ate extra fruit, ate less chocolate and biscuits, walked extra, didn't sit down at all at the weekend - gardening, washing the car, batch cooking, housework etc.

    Put on 1 pound

My sister used to do WW and she always said the same thing about it taking a week to catch up - whether a bad one or a good one.

Hoping for a bloomin good "catchup" next week then!!! :D

    My answers:-

How often do you all weigh yourselves?
I force myself to only weigh once a week. Have got so obsessed in the past with weighing several times a day (and was underweight as a result - seems like a long long time ago now).

How much weight do you have to lose?
Just 8 lbs will take me down into the "normal" BMI range so that's my starter. In addition I'd like to lose another 7lbs eventually. Basically enough to fit into the rest of my clothes!!! :D

How much weight have you lost?
    Not enough!! :D

    How tall are you?
    Average height

What one food do you think is your dieting saviour?
    Caramel snack a jacks!

How much water do you drink a day?
Erm does PG flavoured tea count??? :D

My body is mad. I lost 4 over Christmas and I have not lost since 2nd week of January. But I am taking control, snacking on celery and carrots with hummus. I think maybe workload after the holidays has tired me out.

Here is my pledge for this week:
I pledge to eat healthily and walk more. If I loose that would be great, if not such is life.

Well done - with that attitude you can't fail :T

ftbworried when you don't lose is when you need most support. We all put on or maintain at some point, please don't be embarrassed - and keep posting.
1100 calories is on the low side, how much weight do you have to lose? TOTM can easily mean you hold on to 4lbs extra fluid, so don't worry about that at all. I'm sure it'll show a better result next week. The lb you have lost is one less you need to lose, so be pleased with it. Get a pound of butter (or similar) out of the fridge and have a look what that 1lb of fat looks like - you lost that from somewhere!!!

Catmeister I think your post was aimed at me and I'm not against other peoples plans at all. I fully accept that different things work for different people - as I've often said in the past. However, I've been there, done that and got every slimming plan T-shirt there is so I really do know what I'm talking about.

If you choose to take meal substitutes to lose weight that's fine, but what I have said in the past is that they don't teach you new eating habits. I've gone back through my posts and I haven't made any derogatory remarks I'm sure, but I, personally, don't think that diets that don't teach you something about your eating habits are bound to fail in the long term. That is my honest opinion and one I will always uphold.

I know that you will lose weight with Slimfast, I've done it myself, so I know it works, but the difference between such diets and the way I promote now, is in the word "diet". I don't use the word with SW, it's not a diet, it's a healthy eating plan, which you can live with forever (unlike meal substitutes which are only ever a short-term solution.

I'm sorry if you feel that I've picked on you, I truly didn't mean to and I apologise if you feel slighted. As I posted over the past few days - cutting back on food will always result in weight loss, but most of us put it back on again when we return to 'normal' eating. That is, eating the things that made us overweight in the first place.

Once the weight is lost - that is when the hardest part begins ;)

Plum Pie - fantastic weight loss :T

Retiredlady don't worry, stick with your plan, it'll come off. Sometimes it's better to try and see your weightloss over a 3 or 4 week period. As long as the trend is down, keep going. Have you thought about making yourself a graph? It can be very inspiring to actually see the line dipping ever downwards. Also, measure yourself, because it is often the case that the inches go down without the pounds following suit.

Newlywed, same applies. Stick with it and you'll see results eventually.
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

    Hi all :hello:

Congrats to those of you with good losses this week :T

After having had a good week including successfully ignoring the urge to scoff a box of sweets left over from xmas I was somewhat disappointed to have lost only 0.6 lb. I know it's better than gaining but considering it was only the end of week 4 I was hoping it would be some months ahead before the weight loss started to slow down.

However I will take comfort in retiredlady's post and hope that the effort will show at next weeks weigh in.

I also decided to check my measurements and found that I have lost 1" off my bust, 2" off my waist and 11/2" off my hips and that's in 3 weeks since I measured so for 7.6lbs total lost so far I don't think it's bad; and to gee myself up further I think I'll go and count my money in my £s for lbs jar:D

I weigh myself first thing Monday morning - I did not do a mid week weigh last week but I think I will this week for that extra boost.

    I am 5'3" tall.

I don't drink enough water but I bought plenty of sparkling mineral water at the weekend to see if this will help (if only for the additional excercise in running to the loo all the time!)

Good luck to the rest of you
I wish that I could be the oldest AND wisest....sadly it's not the latter :p but my time will come _party_ wooooh hoooh! Beware!!!!!!!

Hello all! Just been skiming through the last few posts, sounds like we've all been putting the work in but just not getting the results. It will work - i had the same thing two weeks ago and ended up with a 2kg loss the week after. I really needed the support of this thread that week. Victory, go you with the bike!! I'm rubbish on bikes and so is OH. He used to be a postman and they gave him a bike but he kept crashing it. He insists the problem is the fact that the basket on the front is fixed so when you turn the handlebars it doesn't move. So you turn the handlebars a bit more. . . and a bit more . . . and then you fall off and have to pick up all the mail.

Honey stop right there!! We are all our own worst critics and I bet those two skinny girls are at this very moment talking to their friends about how flat chested they are going to look next to the other bridesmaid and how depressing it is. I know it's hard, I can't help comparing myself with other people but it's so self destructive. We don't know anything about that person that we see in the street or the gym - what you think is naturally slim could be the result of something truly awful for them. They may be looking at you wishing with all their heart they could be like you! Sorry, that rambles a bit. but I reiterate we are our own harshest critics. I hate the bridesmaid pics from last year, OH has one in his wallet because he thinks I look great. you and your family will know on the day how much effort you have gone to and I bet that you will look great.

Thanks Katie for those lovely words.

Well done to all the losers this week - too many to name/remember. Hello Australia  I so wish I was there and not here!

DS now has manflu - why are all men (sorry suggs) all such bad sufferers  I have been running after him all weekend and he is totally lapping it up. DD says she wants to be a nurse when she is older - think Cathy Bates in the film Misery  :rotfl:

Weigh in tonight. Fingers crossed - will report back later
