Been trying to figure something out. As a Manchester resident my disabled persons' bus pass will take me on trains within Greater Manchester for free, but which stations are at the furthest edges of that? I'm travelling to Stafford sometime in the next week (not sure when yet) and while I know I can get a bus from Stoke-on-Trent to Stafford (and visit my grandmother on the way), I'm not sure where I'd need to get the train from to get to Stoke, though I've been trying to figure it out. Would it be Stockport? Thanks.
If you go to the gmpte website and look at the rail network map you can see the ticketing boundary. Apparently your limit is Bramhall, though to get this you'd have to get the stopping train to Stoke (with a local authority pass your train does need to stop at the 'connecting' station, unlike an ordinary season ticket for which it does not). If you want to get a fast train to Stoke it would indeed be Stockport.
Also, make sure you look at fares to Stafford anyway, because it's possible you'll get an advance ticket from Manc/Stockport to Stafford for less than the fare you'd have to pay to Stoke.0 -

Thank you very much! I couldn't find the ticketing boundary for some reason, so you've done me a favour that will last by doing that, for other future trips as well as this one.I knew the eastern boundary was Hebden Bridge, but that was all.
*nod* Not for this week - looks like I'm going to have to go by coach to afford it this time - but for my next trip, it is a very good idea. Thanks for all your helpHomosexual, Unitarian, young, British, female, disabled. Do you need more?0 -
Hi,
Im a newbie here but I need to get from Glasgow to Solihull return at some point within the next few weeks (I do not know the exact date as yet). I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about splits for the cheapest tickets?
Any help appreciated

Try one of the following;
Manchester Pic, Crewe, Wolverhampton or Birmingham New StreetWhoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -

If you can, get a megatrain ticket from Glasgow to Birmingham New Street, then an ordinary ticket for the Moor St-Solihull part.
If you can't get a mega ticket and there are no ordinary advance tickets available, Preston, Crewe or Stafford are likely to be the best for splitting (especially the latter two, as then you can get a London Midland-only ticket which are cheaper than open ones).
You may also find there is more availability of advance tickets to Birmingham International than Solihull (and there's a good bus service between the two).0 -
I want to go from Preston to Glasgow weekend of 22 of may. The cheaper the better. I have found the a ticket for two people is £72. could I get it any cheaper.

Then I doubt you'll do better - £18 each single each way at a peak time is not a bad fare on that type of journey
Megatrain probably have cheaper fares but they haven't been released yet and they don't run weekends anyway. If you can go on the Thursday and come back on the Monday they could be a possibility.0 -
