  • Truro - Tiverton Parkway
Tiverton Parkway - London Paddington (plus return) £69.50

Only saved £12 in total (compared to getting direct singles each way) but some of the journey is now in first class as it was even cheaper than standard.
  • Used split ticketing twice from London Paddington to Bristol for short-notice trips. One off-peak to Bristol Parkway, split at Didcot Parkway (and was able to use my Network Card for the London to Didcot return journey), think I saved around £30. Second time was peak hours out of London to Bristol Temple Meads, split at Swindon and saved about £15 on a £90ish ticket. It also feels like Bristol Parkway is a bit cheaper to travel than Temple Meads but haven't checked that out fully.

Also used for trip London Euston to Birmingham New Street going out at peak time. Wanted to travel on faster more expensive train so split at Milton Keynes and saved £13.50 on a £58 ticket (but usually use slow service which is far, far cheaper, or travel from Marylebone on slow service )

    Darlington to London Kings X = 3 month advance return £99.35 -

    2 people £198.70

    Darlington - York (single),
York to London Kings X (single)
London Kings X to York (single)
    York to Darlingon (single)

    £124 total
(2 people) no more than 1 hours wait at York each way.

Almost £75 saved for a short wait at York x 2 (probably could have made the waits shorter but then we were talking about 10 minutes between trains so opted for the safer option).

You can actually get this down to £20.50 if you don't mind an extra change at Sheffield, or £23.20 changing just the once at Leeds (see screenshot for example: https://ibb.co/0ZTQ6QF ).

It can be cheaper to split at Tamworth/Chesterfield, but not always. Not all trains call at Tamworth. It can be cheaper to split at Derby/Sheffield. There are occasions when it can be cheaper to go via Manchester. Fortunately there are several National Rail accredited split ticket websites that can work out the cheapest splits and sell them.
