Split Ticketing: Report successful routes here

Recently I've not had much luck split ticketing as the return full journey price seems to be the same or cheaper. I was beginning to wonder if split ticketing even works.
I want to travel from Bangor (Gwynedd) to London on the 3rd July. I need to be in London around 9.30am and I want to return the same day (but not too late home as I will have a 2hr drive afterwards). Also it's 2 adults and 1 child with a family and friends railcard.
I've found it at £124. Is it possible to get it cheaper?
Thanks0 -
Can't see anything obvious whilst remaining within your time constraints
You can probably split at Crewe on to the slower London Midland service but you are going to add an hour plus each way to the journey0 -
Hi,
I have to travel up to Huddesfield tomorrow as my Father has died and am having trouble trying to split my ticket. Standard return booked now is £95.
Best I can do is £88 odd quid booking singles via East Coast. I tried spliting hte ticket at Peterborough and it worked out more expensive so gawd knows what I am doing. I haven't done it for a while and am a bit rusty!
I have to go tomorrow morning from London to Huddersfield. I even looked at the coach but 6.5 hours then, then 6.5 hours back, with what I have to do in-between is a bit too much to contemplate today!
Thanks in advance if anyone is about to help in the next hour.

Bit longer than an hour sorry - but that 'standard return' will be the same price at the station tomorrow. Well 20p more (rounding I assume) but it will give you flexibility over advance singles0 -

If you are prepared to travel on specific trains, then that trip can be done for £52.50 without splitting.
E.g...
Dep Kings Cross 06:15, arr Durham 09:25. Advance Single = £26.25.
Dep Durham 18:41, arr Kings Cross 21:46. Advance Single = £26.25.
Book on East Coast Trains website to get those fares.0 -

You didn't say if you wanted to return the same day, but if you are a quick search on the East Coast website shows
7th July London to Durham 06:15 Advance single £26.25*
7th July Durham to London 18:41 Advance single £16.25*
Total Return £52.50
* Includes 10% East Coast online discount.
Edit: Lol, slow internet connection today, oh well duplicate post but I'm sure the poster now has the best optionWhoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -
I travel from Glasgow to London every week and pretty much always split my ticket! Should have posted some of my successes! This is my most recent:
Single Fare Glasgow Central to London Euston on Wednesday 11th July (with 16-25 railcard)
Departing Glasgow Central 10.40 Arriving London Euston 15:12
Cheapest Advance £46.55
Double Split:
Glasgow Central to Warrington Bank Quay
Departing 10:40 Arriving 13:20 £5.50 (booked through megatrain)
Warrington Bank Quay to Crewe
Departing 13.39 Arriving 13.58 £6.85 (whyyyy is this the most expensive part??? It's only 20 minutes...)
Crewe to London Euston
Departing 14.33 Arriving 17:49 £5.30
Total: £17.65 (a saving of £28.90)
Might not be suitable for everyone as it makes the journey LONG. But I'm a student and don't mind sitting on a slow train and reading my lecture notes, and I don't have any specific times I need to stick to.
Can anyone beat that?0 -
Thats really good value for money but that last train from Crewe to Euston is an all shacks and takes over 3 hours. Thats 7 hours travelling on a train which is madness to me.
But if cost is king then that is very very good value."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -
Aaand coming back Tuesday 17th July
Cheapest Advance £34.30 10.30-15:25
Departing London Euston at 10:40 Arriving Manchester at 12:49 £11.90
Departing Manchester 13:16 Arriving Glasgow 16.30 £12.85 (bought through TransPennine Express who are doing 50% off with a 16-25 railcard)
Total £24.75 (saving £9.55). Not particularly impressed with this saving... But I see it as getting paid £9.55 to do an extra hours studying on the train...0
