Thanks for mebntioning that - it just emphasises the need to look around. Unfortunately I couldn't pin down my return time so I had to book the off-peak single which was irritating but I'm more than happy to have sort of beaten the system to force it to sell me the outbound cheap fare.0

Dates and times of preferred outward and return travel.
Number of adults and children travelling.
Are you sure splitting is the best solution?
What fares have you found so far?0 -
Any way of beating £26.80 each for two people travelling from Chesterfield to Birkenhead on Saturday?
Derbyshire Wayfarer for two gets us to New Mills for £20 in total and then it's £16.80 return from there. Still a fair wedge for what's no huge distance!0 -
Found this one for a trip later this month I am making
Manchester to Oxford with Young Persons Railcard Off-peak month return
MAN -> OXF £45.70
or
MAN -> STA £13.75
STA -> LMS £12.80
LMS -> OXF £11.50
========== £38.05 (Saving £7.65 or 16.74%)
For non rail card holders was £68.55 now ~£57 saving ~£11.47
(Well it pays for a bit of on board food and drink)
Edit: for reference stations are
MAN (Manchester)
STA (Stafford)
LMS (Leamington Spa)
OXF (Oxford)0 -

A useful post - but what are STA and LMS? MAN and OXF are fairly obvious but to those unfamiliar with the route the others are, let's say, unhelpful.0 -
not sure if this has been posted, but I couldn't find my post
I;ve done the journey Leyland (LEY)-Stockport (SPT) before and it's cheaper split at Bolton (BON)
LEY-SPT off-peak return 14.40
LEY-BON off-peak return 8.40; BON-SPT off-peak return 4.10 (total 12.50)
hope it helps (:0 -
York to Banbury £14 single would be an advance fare, with a railcard too I'm guessing. Not comparable with a saver return, which is a walk-up fare.0

Manchester - Birmingham open return for 2 16-25's Normal price £99 split in Stoke on Trent £52.50 (and even cheaper if going off peak)0
