  • Split at Peterborough / Ely and possibly Nuneaton.

This applies to off peak flexible tickets. I haven't checked what happens when you want to use advance tickets. Also, this information is based on the 2008 prices. Prices changed at the start of 2009.

    Ipswich - Nuneaton return: £53.90.
    Ipswich - Peterborough return: £17.50
    Peterborough - Nuneaton return: £22.80
    Saving: £13.60

Ipswich - Coventry return avoiding London: £65.80
    Use the above two plus:
    Nuneaton - Coventry return: £4.10
    Saving: £21.40

I haven't checked if splitting the Peterborough - Nuneaton leg will reduce the price further.

There's a £19 single at the moment Darlington - Manchester on the 0800 and at 0944 you can travel for £10.50

Add £9.80 M/cr to Lpool standard fare (there is one train at £5 advance single which the earlier train from Darlington would get you there for) and £3.90 to get to Darlington and you are there for a lot less than the standard £44 odd.
  • I was planning a journey to collect a bike last august before i 'popped' my knee, and remember finding a single for £13,but now i find all sites quoting me double that, which would make my journey £52.
Any help with splitting,or advice regards the increase much appreciado
    (no mentions of the crunch)
  • An Offpeak Return from Mansfield to Blackpool North is £51.70 or £64.50 for an Anytime Return.
Split ticket at Sheffield but must travel slightly longer journey via Leeds rather than via Manchester.

Mansfield to Sheffield is £12.50 return at all times
Sheffield to Blackpool North (via Leeds) is £29.60 Anytime Return

Therefore a saving of £9.60 at offpeak times but a massive saving of £22.40 at peak times.

Splitting tickets at Sheffield saves considerable amounts of money to many destinations in Yorkshire and the North West from Mansfield.
Quite large amounts can also be saved from Nottingham to destinations in Yorkshire (eg. Leeds, wakefield and York) by splitting tickets at Sheffield.
  • I've been following the guidelines to try and split ticket between Bridgwater and Dunfermline Town and I don't seem to get past the set standard fare of £145.40

Looking to travel Saturday 10th for a week from about 9am (off peak of course lol)

Was just wondering if it's me lol

If someone could help me I would appreciate it immensely.

    Thanks

Cross Country seemed to have 'abolished' the cheaper advance fares and offer in the main only the most expensive band only slightly cheaper than the walk on fare.

Splitting at Birmingham and Cheltenham might help but I'll leave you to try it.

It's not you, it's Cross Country trains who have apparently withdrawn the cheaper advance tickets.

    Two suggestions to try:

    split at Cheltenham and Birmingham
travel via London and split there
  • Ordinary return £121, same journey split ticketed via Swindon was £36.50 including Trainline £1 booking fee!

Why did you waste £1 - the websites of the Train companies allow you to book for free and won't charge you for tickets and CC usage
