  • Hey, i'm new to all this but i was wondering if anyone can help me work out the cheapest route from Grimsby to Wolverhampton on Thurs 15th Jan? I also need Wolverhampton to Grimsby on Sun 18th Jan. I don't have a railcard and the cheapest i can find is £43.90 offpeak return but i can't really afford this.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Don't know but you might get a deal on the new line up the middle of the country to wrexham, followed by a local ticket up to the Wirral via Bidston:

I fear you won't get it much cheaper if at all, but try split ticketing at Sheffield and Birmingham and maybe get the tram from Brum to Wolves instead of the train

    Peterboro - Brum £15.50
    Brum Liverpool £9

both advance purchase, seem to be widely available

Lpool - Birkenhead £1.85 open single
  • Hi all,

forgive me if this has been posted before but I have the flu and am being pretty crap at finding tickets.

I am travelling last minute on 1st Jan 2009 from Poole (Dorset) to York. I would like to leave after 10am and arrive before 1am in York, pretty flexible for the rest.

The cheapest I have been able to find is £43.80

    That is
£10 - 13.55 Poole to London Waterloo via Eastleigh
    £33.80 - 17.00 or 18.00 London Kings X to York

I would appreciate it if anyone knows of better places to split tickets on this run or can suggest an alternative route or cheaper fare.

    Huge thanks
  • Where is a good place to split this journey between Bristol Temple Meads and Sheffield? This journey is outrageously expensive and I have to make several journeys for 2 weeks.

I do wish someone would make a website that would automatically search and find the best value splits...

Thanks for any advice in advance!

    Regards - Piers
  • On trainline I have paid £14.50 for an off peak day return from Chester to Birmingham. It would have been over £29 from Flint. The cost of Flint to Chester is under a fiver:j

If you can't get cheap advance tickets for the complete journey then try any or all of Cheltenham Spa Birmingham and Derby

The cheapest return ticket on 7 March (or any other time) is £78. You really don't want a return though.

If you buy an advance single in each direction it's from £11.50 each way depending on what trains you catch. If you book on the National Expres East Coast site you may get a discount.

For the Bristol journey you are too early for advance tickets - leave it a week or two.
