Looks like everybody seams to be travelling from chesterfield that day but try this;
Out
Chesterfield to Derby Off Peak return £12.10
Derby to Bristol TM Advance single £12
Bristol TM to Bath Spa Off Peak return 11
Rtn
Bath TM to Bristol TM Off Peak Return £0
Bristol to Derby Advance Single £12
Derby to Chesterfield Off Peak Return £0
Total £47.10
With the advance tickets you must travel on the booked trains, and give yourself plenty of time to change trains, the Off peak tickets are only valid after 09:30. If you plan this well you should be able to get the direct Crosscountry train from Chesterfield to Bristol and Bristol to ChesterfieldWhoa! I'm trying to get a return for 2 adults with young persons railcards from Cardiff to Birmingham for 14th Feb and coming back the next day. The cheapest I've found is £47 for both of us, split in Cheltenham but there were limited times available.
Would be very grateful if anyone could help! I got it last year for around £10ish for both of us0 -
What you have found are walk on off peak fares, buy on the day and (at weekends) valid on any train. Don't understand the 'limited availability' bit - they should be there on every train.
You would be better off waiting for Cross Country to release the cheap advance single fares - on the basis of what's available now that might not be for another month. Then price both the through fare and splitting in Cheltenham. The through fare starts at £8.60 (total for you both) each way if the cheapest band is available.0 -

£47 isn't to bad a price, the cheapest I could find was £26 for the both of you return, but there will be lots of £10 singles per person but you will have to wait a bit as Crosscounty havn't released these tickets for this route yet. As well as been cheaper, its a direct service as well.Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -

dzug1 & livingthedream - thank you for your help, the crosscountry advance fares that you mentioned are what I had in mind. How are you able to check that these fares haven't been released yet? Or are you just going by the fact that no cheap ones are available
Hope I make sense!

If you go to http://www.atoctravelagents.org/ and follow the booking horizons link (towards the bottom left) it will take you to a list of the latest releases. It can be a little out of date (it's updated about once a week, usually a Friday) but is fairly detailed - it differentiates between weekdays and weekends, and between routes where a train company has different dates for different destinations.
Also the fact there aren't any - booking that far ahead there's going to be something left if they've been released - is a good indicator. They don't often sell out immediately.0 -

As your trying to get a Cheap Crosscountry Advance ticket, this may be of help, its Crosscountry's advance ticket alert. Just sign up and they will email you when the advance tickets for your journey and date are released;

But keep checking yourself, better safe than sorry. :TWhoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -
Split either at Manchester Piccadilly, or at Bristol Parkway and Darlington. Both are much cheaper than buying normal tickets0
