Hi all
Can anyone help with a journey to Warrington from Billingshurst?
Travelling after 4pm 7/11/08 and returning 9/11/08.
Thanks in advance.
Outward no problem - £17.50 advance single easily available
Coming back there's an £8.50 single Warrington to Birmingham on the 1430 departure then the 1918 out of Birmingham has a £16.50 cheap single. A 2 hour wait though but you save about £30 on the standard return fare
The Sunday is not a good day to be travelling - loads of engineering works with buses and diversions.0 -
SOME journeys from the south to Durham will give savings if your train has to change at DARLINGTON. This is when the last leg from Darlington is on a different train co. than National Express (GNER).0

I frequently travel from Andover area to main stations on the North East line North of Newark. My outward journey needs to be early and is therefore in the peak period. As I use a Senior Railcard I cannot use it to buy a split ticket if the “split stop” is in the Southeast network. I therefore buy a return to Peterborough, outside the network and all main trains stop there, and then a return from Peterborough to my destination. How much I save depends on where I am going.
It could be cheaper going Basingstoke Reading Birmingham but it rarely gets me to my destination in time and anyway it has no decent catering. I forgot to mention I blow some of my savings on a wonderful breakfast on the train out of King's Cross.0 -
Hereford to Ayr normal costing advance booking. £183.90 Return for 1 Adult and 1 Child.
Split booking with Friend and family Railcard........... £56.20
A saving of £127.70
Splits are.
Hereford to Birmingham
Birmingham to Crewe
Crewe to Glasgow
Glasgow to Ayr
As we have to up to Scotland to see a specialist for my son and will have to stay over for 2 nights getting the travel costs as cheap as possible was very nessesary.
Thank you for this tip.:T0 -

Just shows what can be done if you try.
Minor point of correction - the £183 is not an advance booking fare. It can be bought on the day, same price.0 -

To Leeds
20:03 : £22.35
20:30 : £18.20
21:30 : £10.30
To London
16:57 : £18.20
17:40 : £17.10
18:40 : £17.10
19:27 : £17.10
20:05 : £6.65
So I make that a minimum of £16.95 & a maximum of £40.550 -
When travelling down through the West Country, don't split your ticket at main stations like Plymouth and Exeter - avoid main stations and try smaller ones. Top and most money-saving tip a train guard gave me is to split at TOTNES - it works and has saved me a packet to date!!0

Hi there all fellow bargain hunters!
Please can anyone help? I regularly travel from Banbury to Haywards Heath but have so far been unable to beat the advertised fares on The Trainline. Does anyone know of a good place to split the fare please? Many Thanks
PS I also regularly travel to Warrington and have recently discovered that it works to split fares at Wolverhampton - I reduced the fare by 50%!!0 -

This is the best I could do, hopefully your not commuting or this won't work;
Banbury to haywards heath £32.90 Off peak day return (valid after 0900)
Total Return £32.90 instead of £71 anytime return
Hope that helps
The cheapest advance tickets I could find were £16.50 one way (It did say £5 but I couldn't find them) I tried splitting at London but it worked out a few pound dearer
Sorry for not been much help
One last thing if you have to travel peak then do as stated in the MSE train guide and pay only for peak part and get the remainder of the journey off peak
Banbury to High Wycombe Peak day return £17.20
High Wycombe to Haywards Heath off-peak day return £22.90
Total £40.10Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0
