As I suspected Easyjet is probably your best bet at £23.99 each way with hand luggage only.

Anything else seems to have problems with north of Birmingham

Manchester to Cambridge: out 11/11,ret 14/11

Cheapest return I could find was £45. Pretty good price but was via London using tube between Euston and King's Cross. May be worth it for convenience and timing. But while my 25yr old brother could cope with the tube, don't think my 66yr old mum could!!!

But, by doing singles M/cr to Leeds and then Leeds to Cambridge (changing at Peterborough and Ely) and same going back - £37.15.

Is an under £8 saving worth 3 changes, longer overall journey time and risking trains being late and missing connections?

Edit: ought to add that I haven't yet tried purchasing any of these tickets! Will update if any probs!
If you have nothing constructive to say just move along.

Gave up on split ticketing when I got £35 return M/cr-Cam via London. Figured that was a good enough price and singles wouldn't be any cheaper!

  • Can anyone help? I'm going Leeds to Liverpool on Saturday returning on Sunday. preferably around 9:30 depart on Saturday and return depart around 15:00 on Sunday. Cheapest train ticket I found is £~27 return. The coach is £12.50, but I'd be willing to go upto £15 for the train.

    Thanks guys!

    That's a good one.

But bear in mind that virtually no Virgin trains (to/from Birmingham) call at Rugby, so you are accepting a change and a slower journey for your saving
  • Lookin to book for next week and a 'normal' return was £52.90. Two singles would cost even more but managed to break the trip up as follows with four single tickets:

Plymouth to Bristol Temple Meads £15.50
Bristol Temple Meads to Newport £5.00
Newport to Bristol Temple Meads £4.00
Bristol Temple Meads to Plymouth £15.50

Total cost £40 plus £2 booking fee - a decent saving indeed and all thanks to my wife remembering about a Martin's Money Tip!
