Last year I booked in advance with Virgin and got the tickets for £10 each way, first class, but they don't seem to have similar offers this year :-(
Thanks
They should have similar offers, nearer the time. When I looked a few days ago they were only booking to the end of November.
Chiltern also have cheap tickets on their route via Banbury0 -
Hi guys,
I need to get down to London King's Cross from Chester to get the Eurostar (2pm to Paris- woo!) on the 27th of December. I'm coming back on the 1st but that's probably to Sheffield. I've looked through the boards but can't really find a definitive answer. I've heard all about splitting but not sure where to split. Also I heard that "travelling short" on this route can save money and I reckon although it's banned I could blag it! ;-)
Any ideas would be hugely appreciated, I'm not really a seasoned traveler and am totally baffled by the whole thing. Many thanks in advance
I thought I'd done a reply to this yesterday but it doesn't seem to be here.
You really don't want to start thinking about splitting on these routes just yet. Leave that until the cheap advance single tickets have been released (a few weeks yet I would think) and you have failed to get them. they should be your best bet and if you book soon after release you should get one.
The travelling short loophole in regard to Chester has been removed - the validity of the tickets where it worked has been changed.0 -

just found this thread....what a brilliant idea..
I need to travel one way single October 28th
Bishop Auckland to Derby, leaving 9.25, cost of ticket on East Coast line is 47.50 ...any alternatives?
thanks0 -
Try Darlington, Doncaster, Leeds, Sheffield.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

12:10 Cross Country Trains service from Darlington direct to Derby - £25.50
Pay for Bishop Auckland to Darlington separately
Or the 19:10 or 20:55 for £21.50 - for a real bargain you can get 1st Class for £25.50 at those times0 -
Pontefract-Glasgow (with Snr R'card) £52.00 off-peak single.
Split: Pontefract-Leeds-Newcastle-Dunbar-Glasgow £30.00. Same trains.
Just (almost) paid for my Senior Railcard:beer:0 -
How to split ticket for Bristol to Edinburgh route?
110 open return all advance ticket fully book0 -
Date of travel would help a lot
I'd however first check Easyjet for Bristol to Edinburgh
Failing that try booking separate Bristol to London & London to Edinburgh or Bristol to Birmingham and Birmingham to Edinburgh
Also try the same but travelling to Glasgow, then add on the cost of Megabus from Glasgow to Edinburgh0 -
any time between 15-19 OCT planning to stay in Edinburgh for 4 days can travel any time during the day0
