Split Ticketing: Report successful routes here

Hi guys,
On Saturday I'm going to London - it'll be one adult and two kids with a family rail card. We went last Friday and paid about £30 for the tickets, but the cheapest way I can see of doing it this time is buying two singles rather than a saver return which will cost £43.65 (via thetrainline.com). Before I purchase, I was wondering if anyone knew of an effective way to split when travelling from Derby to London that might make it a bit cheaper? I've written down the prices to every station from every other station en-route but thought I might ask in case someone already has experience of this before I try to work it out.
We're aiming to leave Derby at about 10am and catch a return train at 6-ish.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
You can save a little by not using the trainline (or raileasy) (who charge a fee) but one of the other sites (who don't). The fares will be the same.
My guess is that a split at Bedford or Luton might work, but as you've looked up the fares I don't need to check for you. Look at a one day travelcard if it's a day return0 -
Thanks for your help!
What are the other sites?
I'll check splitting at Bedford/Luton. As far as I can tell, though, I could only get the travel card from Birmingham which is a shame as we'll be purchasing tube tickets once we're there anyway.0 -

Chiltern, First Great Western, Virgin, Cross Country - any of the train companies.
Why Birmingham? It's a BAD way to go at weekends and not that good in the week.0 -
Ah, I see - thanks!
When I was looking for tickets on thetrainline, the only local station that came up with getting a travel card as an option was Birmingham. However, once I'd paid for a train between Derby and Birmingham it would work out at pretty much the same price.0 -
I normally book before now but have stupidly left it late and have trawled aroudn trainline, virgin and east coast trying to find a way to save pennies.
I am looking for Poole to Leeds, travel on 5 September after 4pm (possibly after 3pm) and return on 7 September on an AM service.
Any help appreciated as I seem to be going around in circles. The icing on the cake would be to get the 5.06pm from Poole as it only has 1 change but beggars can't be choosers!"Stay Wonky":D

When split ticketing and collecting the tickets from a machine, do you have to collect them from the station that you're travelling from? For example, my initial station will be Derby but the cheapest split will be at Kettering and Bedford - will I have to somehow collect my respective tickets from these stations?0

You can specify the station you want to pick up at - Im pretty sure it asks you when booking.0 -
Hi all, need to find a cheap way to get to Sheffield from London (and back), friday 3rd October. Going to be doing this regularly now as have left uni in Sheffield but girlfriend is still there. Need to leave London 6pm or after on a Friday, coming back on Sunday anytime after3pm. Any help? Cheers!0

What have you found so far??
Try megatrain for the Friday (they don't run Sundays) and see what you can pick up in the way of cheap advance singles for the Sunday - any rail website will do, just avoid thetrainline and raileasy as they charge fees.
If the above works, forget split ticketing.0 -
