Hi, I am trying to find some prices for my inlaws to come from Middlesbrough to visit us, we can get them from Havant or Chichester, or Portsmouth, anywhere on this part of the south coast.
So far I am looking at £258 for them to come from Middlesbrough to Havant and £259 to Chichester.
As they are elderly I don't want them to get the coach, but the train is looking really expensive.
Dates are really flexible, but thinking Monday 8th Aug, then return that Friday or weekend.
If anyone has any good tips I would be very grateful.

At those prices senior railcards will repay their cost several times over
Have a look at megatrain between London and Havant - on a quick look the timings aren't too good but it might be OK
And have a look at Grand Central that they would pick up at Eaglescliffe0 -
^^^ Just to add to what dzug's has posted, but if you go through this link you can get a 10% discount on a Senior Railcard.

Useful information - but it would be helpful if you said what sort of tickets those were. Off peak day returns by the look of it no good to anyone not returning the same day:)0 -
Middlesbrough to Havant
thanks all0 -
This is going to sound mad however I have checked with National Rail and this is correct. If travelling to Manchester, purchase any open ticket (any valid route) from Helsby or Chester to Altrincham and you pay less:mad:
I don't understand and can not see why as Stockport which is two stations before Altrincham from Mancheter and is more expensive.
Example below
Helsby to Stockport Day Return £14.50
Helsby to Manchester Day Return £12.60
Helsby to Altrincham Day Return £11.60 (Just get off in Manchester)
Season Tickets are also cheaper
Helsby to Manchester Weekly £55.60
Helsby to Altrincham Weekly £52.40 (Just get off in Manchester)
Helsby to Manchester Monthly £213.60
Helsby to Altrincham Monthly £201.30 (Just get off in Manchester)
Helsby to Manchester Yearly £2224
Helsby to Altrincham Yearly £2096 (Just get off in Manchester)
(That is £128 Cheaper per Year!!!!!)0 -
Anybody know any cheap tickets for Aberdeen to York please? Am willing to try splitting tickets. One traveller has a 16-25 railcard so hopefully that will reduce the cost. It is a return journey about 26th to 31st August.

Thanks
1. Don't leave it to last moment to buy and look for cheap advance tickets there and back.
2. Buy from East Coast website as they release the advance tickets and offer a 10% online only discount on their advance tickets.
3. The 26th is a Friday which is naturally busy, if at all possible try travelling on the 25th or 27th instead.
4. Split options are Edinburgh or Glasgow if you don't mind a walk from Queen st to Central, but ensure minimum connection times (30-45mins to play it safe)
5. If you split at Glasgow, in your online train time search engine use more options and go 'via Manchester Pic' longer journey but might be cheaper.
6. Definitely use the 16-25 railcard.
This could be the cheapest without splitting, from the east Coast website and includes a 10% discount;
25th Aug dep18:16 arr00:13 Advance single £25.65 with RC £16.90
31st Aug dep17:53 arr23:14 Advance single £32.85 with RC £21.70
Total £58.50 with RC £38.60
Or if possible delay your trip until September and make use of The Scotsman's East Coast Offer, but you need to get the password tomorrow, Sunday and Monday from the newspaper.
