Most trains from Birmingham go either to Euston or Marylebone, so does it have to be St Pancras or if not do you mind trip on the underground or a longer journey to get to St Pancras.Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -

The 11:53 from Birmingham NS to London Euston is only £9.50 single - bit of a slow train but saves a fortune0 -

Splitting isn't going to work between London & Birmingham anyway (for various reasons).
To get an affordable fare, either book a Chiltern train from Birmingham Moor St to London Marylebone (and take a bus no 205 or 27 to St Pancras) or book a London Midland train from Birmingham New St to London Euston via Northampton. St Pancras is a 10 minute walk from Euston at a slow pace.
I'd recommend the 10:55 from Birmingham Moor St. This is currently priced at £7.50 single, and is a particularly comfortable train. The train does not convey First Class accommodation, but usually has ex-First Class carriages that you can use on a standard ticket. This train arrives Marylebone at 12:55. (Maryleone to St Pancras is about 10 minutes by bus). Faster than a London Midland train, and more comfortable.0 -
There's loads of cheaper options - possibly as cheap as £8. What's the latest time you have to be at St Pancras? Try the Chiltern Trains and London Midland sites or the cheaper slower trains option.
I assume from your post you are not coming back BTW - it still shouldn't be £35 if you are. A walkon ticket with London Midland is £26 return
If you go to Euston you won't need to pay extra for the tube to St Pancras - it's a short walk.0 -

Looking for help on Preston to Bournemouth to London.
Without any more info, ie times, dates, railcard and number of passengers.
Best I can do is buy in advance, further in advance the better. If not try splitting at either Manchester Piccadilly, Birmingham New St or London.
If splitting at London then Advance singles from Preston to London Euston then look at Megabus (do Trains aswell) for the London Waterloo to Bournemouth Leg, but you will also need to pay for cross London transfer. ie Oyster is cheapest.Whoa!
