HI,
I'm looking at booking a train from Manchester Picadilly to London Euston - for 31/07/2011 (pref arriving before 13:00) and to return 02/08/2011. (pref departing after 14:00)
The cheapest i can find is just under £90 for two adults.
Can anyone beat this as im trying to find the pros and cons of driving.
Thanks,
Steve.0 -

That doesn't actually sound too bad - in fact I can't find anything as cheap, which means you may already be too late for those fares.
Don't pay more than £70 each return - that's the walkon fare0 -

Thanks for having a look for me.
We ended booking our travel and hotel through a travel agent and got open ticket returns for £42 each, with virgin!0 -
I need to travel to Weeley Clacton with my two children to see their grandma but the journey is coming up at over £78 for three of us
I have a friend who travelled from Great Yarmouth to Liverpool St on a super saver advance for £5 but I cant seem to find any cheap fares at all for the route I need. Cheapest is £26.80 each.
Can anyone help? We can travel off peak.
Journey is Liverpool St to Weeley but will probably need to travel via Colchester (split ticket).
I understand that it is cheaper to travel from Stratford so that is an option.
We need to go soon, poor Grandma thinks we dont love her any more!!
Any help on suggested routes greatly appreciated :A0 -
There's no such thing as a supersaver advance - that's muddling two different types of tickets, super saver (a walk on ticket) and advance. But that's bye the bye
Splitting at Colchester should help - there are advance fares available on some trains, including from Stratford. Stratford fares are not necessarily cheaper though
A Family and Friends or Network railcard would help - under £35 total for you all. You've got the cost of the card on top of that but it's valid for a year. There's an offer http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/prmts/article-1386804/Free-2-month-Family--Friends-Railcard-Offer.html that may help as well0 -

How old are you children? and are you planning to comeback the came day? and can you see yourself doing this journey a few times a year?
If your children are under 15 and your planning on many visits per year then get a Family and friends Railcard, here's a link for a 10% online discount.
This will bring the price for a day visit (1adult 2 children; London to Weeley) down to £28.70 Off Peak Day Return, if your staying overnight or longer then price is £34.20 Off Peak ReturnWhoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -
All children are over 18, and although we will do this journey more than once a year we wont all neccessarily be travelling together. We always return the same day.Livingthedream wrote: »How old are you children? and are you planning to comeback the came day? and can you see yourself doing this journey a few times a year?

As your children are over 15, then the Family and Friends railcard is no use at all, however, you could try a Network Card. It brings the price for a Off peak day return down from £82 to £54 for 3 adults. (£50 for splitting at Colchester)Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -
Hi folks, hope you can help.
I've been splitting the ticket from reading to Birmingham for some time now, however tonight I was told that I would be asked to get off the train and wait for the next one when I get to Banbury.
The lady selling the tickets told me they were illegal. I know they are not and I challenged her asking "why are you selling me an illegal ticket" to which she replied "I can only sell them if the customer asks"... So my request changes the law?
Anyhow what i wanted to know is do I have to get off the train? Is this some technicality? Can I get off the train and walk to the next carriage? Any help with the legal position on this one would be appreciated.

You don't have to get off the train. If you encounter this lady again remind her to read the National Rail Conditions of Carriage. Specifically condition 19 which statesYou may use two or more tickets for one journey as long as together they cover the entire
journey and one of the following applies:
(a) they are both Zonal Tickets (unless special conditions prohibit their use);
(b) the train you are in calls at a station where you change from one
ticket to another; or
(c) one of the tickets is a Season Ticket (which for this purpose does not include
Season Tickets or travel passes issued on behalf of a passenger transport
executive or local authority) or a leisure travel pass, and the other ticket(s) is/are not.
You must comply with any restriction shown on the tickets relating to travel in the trains of
a particular Train Company or Train Companies (see Condition 10).
If you do not comply with this Condition, you will be treated as having joined the train
without a ticket and the relevant parts of Condition 2 or 4 will apply, either to the entire
journey, or from the last station where the train stopped at which at least one of the
tickets was valid.Did you really mean to put loose?
Lose: no longer possess, not to retain, unable to find
Loose: not firmly or tightly fixed in place0
