    Hi Everyone.

I will be starting a regular commute from London Paddington to Weston Super Mare going from Fridays morning (off peak) returning Sunday evenings. I was just wondering if there is any split ticketing kung fu that I could organise to lower the price? My first outbound would be on Friday the 10th June returning the 12th

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards

If possible try and buy in advance and look for cheap Advance singles there and back but if the combined price of the singles is greater than £59 (Super Off Peak Return) then buy than ticket.

If you must split then try Didcot and Swindon, it might knock a couple of quid of the fare but the trains you catch must stop at those stations.

    Thanks for replying.

As even in my advanced years :D I am a student I should be able to get the 16-25 railcard later on today.

I will also look into splitting the journey at the stations that you mentioned and hope that I can realise some more savings. If it works I will post back.

    Thanks again.

am wondering if it would be cheaper to fly to Newcastle - but then would I need passports? Toby

Yep the border guards of the People's Republic of Geordieland demand passports from all effete southerners:D

Seriously, you only need a passport for a domestic flight with Ryanair - other airlines are rather more flexible about ID.

If you can get a 16-25 Railcard it will hammer the price down, and will only take a few trips before it's paid for itself.

Here's a link for 10% off the price of a 16-25 railcard, but if this is a long term commute then a 3 yr one for £65 might be better.

If you split at those stations and use advance singles then just give yourself plenty of time to make your connections and with advance singles remember you must travel on booked trains.

I also have a 16 - 25 Railcard - will I be allowed to use it on all trains?

Yes - but in some areas there is a minimum fare before 1000

    http://www.16-25railcard.co.uk/are-you-eligible/tickets-travel-times

    has the restrictions

  • Hi

Does anyone know any good splits for London to Gainsborough or London to Bristol?

    Thanks

To be honest you may not need them - all depends on when your travelling and whether you have any valid railcards. its too vague. If you just look at the route map then you can find splits on the route map - but make sure that your train actually stops at the station you split at. You dont have to get off but you may have to move seat but if it doesnt stop there then you may be liable for the full fare from London to destination
