Hello I am finding it a little hard trying to find if this can be cheaper by split ticketing.
York to Edinburgh return
I would be grteful if anyone knows could find out or me please.
I am wanting to travel either Fri t time upwards or Saturday morning and return Sunday setting off around 5pm.
Thanks :j
Unfortunately not the best of routes to split on, but you could try Newcastle and Berwick-upon-tweed but you'll only save about £5ish off the Super Off Peak Return walk on fare, but remember the train must call at the split stations.
Best bet is to plan if possible and buy advance tickets, for the weekend 3rd to 5th June it's possible for do the journey for £58.70* in July it's down to £47.65*
Other Options split at Manchester Pic or Preston and get advance tickets from there but again needs planning to get the cheapest fares.
*Includes online 10% discount from East Coast website.Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -

Hi...I would very much appreciate any suggestions on the following route. I'm trying to split tickets, but have got a bit confused with it all in the process. My son is a student, & is looking for the very cheapest on this:
One Way Ramsgate - Perth for 23th or 24th July.
Times r very very flexible, as is the departure point. That can be Ramsgate or Canterbury. Your help would be soo appreciated.best freebies to date:
- 1 mountain bike
- 1 nokia n95
- micro hifi
- 2 tickets to Red Bull Air Race on the Thames
- 2 tickets @ the o2 lounge
- Thorntons easter egg

Liverpool-Southampton Saturday 24th July £38.50 single now £32 single with Liverpool- Wolverhampton and then Wol to Southampton. That was where there was a change anyway so seemed to be the easiest way to do it.0

Try this .
08:07 Picadilly - Stafford (£5) (XC)
09:21 Stafford-Euston ( £6) (London Midland)
12:50 Euston-Stafford (£13)(London Midland)
16:34 Stafford- Picadilly (£5) (XC)
There is an hour+ to wait at Stafford on the return, but we asked the Guard on an earlier trian headed to picadilly and he let us travel as it was a XC service.

There's usually no point in splitting if you can get through advance tickets for the complete journey particularly if one of the legs is a London suburban journey
Currently there's a £58.50 single on the 1205 from Ramsgate on the Saturday. A 16-25 railcard would get £20 off that
Similar fares are available a bit cheaper from Canterbury.0 -
Hey there,
I have been searching your forums for quite a while, looking for a solution - but unable to find one for my journey!
I'm trying to get to Durham, from London on Monday 27th June - I know it's a long journey!
I need to return to London, on the same day, around 8pm. I need to be in Durham by 10am. What would be the best way to find cheap tickets?
Basically;
London to Durham - Arrive by 10am (Monday 27th)
Durham to London - Arrive by 8pm (Monday 27th).
As its a long jouney, I wou;dn't mind a few changes, something to keep me occupied. I searched on East Coast' website but was quoted £115 - am wondering if it would be cheaper to fly to Newcastle - but then would I need passports? Sorry I am quite the new guy, just turned 18 and trying to get there for an open day - as cheaply as possible!
Thanks for your help!!

I also have a 16 - 25 Railcard - will I be allowed to use it on all trains?0

Don't bother trying to split but just get advance singles, prices from the East Coast website and include 10% online discount & 16-25 Railcard;
London to Durham 27th June dep 06:15 arr 09:21 Advance single £20.90
Durham to London 27th June dep 16:37 arr 19:46 Advance single £26.75
Total Return £47.65 as advance singles you need to travel on those booked trains.Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0
