If you buy a ticket from Birmingham to London, and another from London to Brighton, then cross London tube travel is not usually included.0 -
If you were to buy a ticket from Birminghan to Brighton via Euston, then yes cross London tube travel is usually included.

Going Beverley > Warrington this Thursday
One ticket costs £42.50 changing at Hull and Manchester.
But 3 individual tickets (same route) = 5.80+13.50+6.80 = £26.10
Not as dramatic as some of the other posts, but still quite a saving!0 -

It all counts, why pay £42.50 for your journey when you can get it for £26.10, just under a 40% saving, nice one.
Where did you split, was it Hull and Manchester?

An Off Peak Return via Carlisle is £87.60.
With Advance Singles you must travel on the booked train.0 -

Be surprised if splitting will reduce that.
Try splitting at Preston, or going via Manchester.
Detail from Southern Railway website.0 -
So that £33.50 is a 25% discount (or thereabouts).
