Why? The Dumbarton-Glasgow ticket is wholly within the area where fares are set by Strathclyde Passenger Transport and therefore at a much lower rate/mile than Scotrail standard prices. This should apply to any other journey within the SPT
Later this year, I'm walking the West Highland Way, I've seen tickets can cost as little as £12ish if booked in advance from Ft William to Glasgow. What is the best station in the SPT area where I could split the fare? Hence, Ft William to ... in SPT area? Then to Glasgow Central/Queen Street. I'm not familiar with the Glasgow area/SPT zones.
Thanks,
Brez0 -
The first station in the SPT area would be Dumbarton Central... but to be honest im not sure yoru going to get much fare variance.. But a few quid saved is a few quid saved."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0

There's actually no point - advance fares are not offered to Dumbarton from Fort William so you'd pay more to get there than you would to Glasgow - about £20 anytime single0 -

£16 to £22 single doesn't sound too bad to me (random midweek date in March). Maybe booking further ahead is the answer?
It might be worth playing about with splitting at York and/or Newcastle though.0 -
thanks yeah ill have a look into the splitting. i used to travel from york to edinburgh and could get tickets without booking that far in advance, usually for about £25ish return.....that was a few years ago mind you...
edit: just had a look into the splitting, some times work out about £1odd nearer or cheaper than just buying the one single ticket....0 -

Plenty of Advance Singles at £12 each way if you book far enough ahead.0
