Hey, the cheapest way to travel between London and Liverpool is to not use Virgin, but instead use the London Midland service.

For the dates and times you want, you can get a return for £72 for both of you. You trade speed for price though, as each journey is over 3 1/2 hours long and its less comfortable.

Leave Liverpool Lime Street at 0704 changing at Stafford and you arrive into Euston at 1049

Leave London Euston at 1813 changing at New Street and you would arrive into Lime Street at 2215.

Usually an open return would cost as little as £32/ £16 with railcard!

These tickets are quite hard to find though. You have to use the LM website, and after getting the search results select the drop down menu and tick london midland service only box.

Not your fault CleanShirt, but this is the problem when someone makes exactly the same post on two threads.

Two people them go to the trouble of researching and coming to the same conclusion.

A virtually identical answer has already been given here and here.

can anyone help me on this one?

it's for a season ticket going from Andover to waterloo:

leaving Andover on the 07.35 train calling at whitchurch, overton, basingstoke and woking

the return journey leaves waterloo at 18.20 calling at the above stations and also clapham junction - getting back into andover at 19.30

the season ticket is £346.40 - with the tube card it is £411.70

I am not sure if there are any splits that can be done but as part of the return journey is during off peak times I thought there may be a cheaper option - any help you can give would be appreciated
  • Hi guys Im a looking for chepa train tickets from edinburgh to birmingham, got the mega train last time but no tickets available even into december! the chepaest I have found is cross country £49.50 there and £45 back, and thats not including tickets from my home town to edinburgh and back and from birmingham to my bf's and back! so add £20 on for that!

Can't help with your main query, but:

megatrain on this route only run Mon-Thurs - I think

have you tried through tickets for your complete journey?

Trying different websites is normally a waste of time - they should come up with the same fares and availability.

You could try splitting the seasons at a stopping station, though I doubt if it will help. (The National Rail site will let you look up prices - there's a season ticket calculator there)

Do you need the tube card? PAYG Oyster is likely to be cheaper if it's just one journey a day each way. Or bus? (in London I mean)

Any or all of Reading Didcot and Swindon are worth a try. No guarantees though
  • Thanks for replying. Tried the megatrain, last time I went on the thursday and came back the monday, had to get a taxi at brum end each way but still ended up cheaper, but there are no tickets even doing it this way. Would prefer not to long story!
Tried split and complete the cheapest I found was on cross country website, the trainline wanted 97.50 each way arg! and virgin the same. Is there anything else I can try? xx
p.s also have limited time as meeting bf @ his flat as he will be travelling up from Fareham (in Navy) was origianlly meant to be coming to me but Navy wont give him warrant and its way more expensive for him to fly up and we have very little time so trains not an option either :( xx
