The cheapest off peak return I found before direct between Plymouth and Birmingham travelling on a Saturday was £92.20 but by splitting the journey by going Plymouth to Bristol and then Bristol to Birmingham and then in reverse for the return only came to £50 making a saving of £42.20 which is almost half price.

Although splitting can make savings, I cannot see how you get those figures.

An Off Peak Return from Plymouth to Birmingham Stations is £92.90.

An Off Peak Return from Plymouth to Bristol Temple Meads or Bristol Parkway is £45.70.

An Off Peak Return from Bristol Temple Meads or Bristol Parkway to Birmingham Stations is £42.00.

So, yes there is a saving. But only £5.20.

By splitting at Exeter St Davids the saving is £14.90.

By splitting at Exeter St Davids and Bristol the saving is £21.00.

Having said all that, I can see how that trip can be done for a lot less using Advance Singles. But that's not comparing like with like, is it?

You guys and girls have helped save me a packet in fares over the last year with your advice, I always try to do myself but come out with pants prices, can you give me a price from:

Teddington to Littlehampton or Arundel departing on 28th December about 11am or mid day or whatever is cheapest and then returning on the 29th, no railcard and its for 1 adult

The best price i get is £24,90 but im sure its cheaper than that.

Southern have not yet released their cheap Advance Singles for those dates. They seem to be up to around 10 Dec so far.

Wait a little while and you should be able to pick up Advance Singles for £3.75 from Clapham Junc, if you book via their website.

Then get a £3.40 Anytime Single from Teddington to Clapham Junc. (or use an Oyster card and save more).

Hi, wondering if anyone can help save me any money. I am looking to go from Liverpool to York on Tuesday 26th October, 1 adult, 1 senior citizen and one child with a family and friends railcard.

Cheapest and best I can find with no changes is going on the 8.22 and coming back on the 19.39. Can anyone find me a better price than £47.60 which I'm getting with National rail?

Leave Liverpool at either 06:16, 07:16 or 09:22 and your return fare drops to £41.55.

If you can leave as late as 10:22, your return fare drops to £37.80.

Split at Manchester Piccadilly.

Exactly the same trains.

Advance Single Liverpool to ManPic = £8.35.
Advance Single ManPicc to York = £15.90.
Advance Single York to ManPic = £11.35.
Advance Single ManPic to Liverpool = £6.30.

Total return for all three of you = £41.90.

I`m not sure if anybody can help me but my Husband and I need to go to London (euston) from Liverpool on 12th Nov arriving by 10.30am and returning same day after 17.30pm tickets at the moment are £160 for 2 return can anyone help me get it any cheaper?
