  • Could you travel a bit later as, dep LLanelli 12.29 arriving London 16.09 is available for £13 so a return journey for £26 ?

Or the 10.29 arrive 14.06 for £17 so £30 return?

Thanks for the info. Can't see the return journey at £13 cheapest I can see is £24.50.

Many thanks for that - shall book it shortly.
  • The £40.50 is an advance single with a 10% online discount, I doubt you'll find cheaper than that, but if the fare dzug1 quoted is at a better time for you I would buy it before it disappears, bear in mind a super off peak single is a £141 it's still a good saving.

Glad I waited til today to book it because the 09:30 train was changed to £40.50 too, will be glad of the couple of extra hours sleep! :)

I've been lucky enough to be given some tickets for the Thursday practice day of the Ryder Cup. But at this late notice I can only get the one day off work, so need to travel down there and back on the same day. I know that may seem a long journey, but it's the Ryder Cup!! With things starting at 8am I really don't want to get there much later than 9am. I've had a look around this site and have seen that you have had some great success. However it's not working for me. Is this because you lot book in advance. Any help would be appreciated. At the minute we're looking at somwhere around the £200 for a return ticket. There will be two of us. There are loads of stations near us, Ely, Cambridge, Peterborough. Even willing to drive to London if that helps.

    I hope someone can help!

    Thanks

Assuming you mean this Thursday, you can get there from Cambridge for just over £100 arriving Newport just after 0900. Plenty of trains back in the evening for £30ish - indeed one at £22

The £100 is a walk on fare, the evening ones advance purchase

If you are happy to arrive Newport at 1000 it's £86ish off peak return - buy on the day

Your problem is not so much the short notice but the peak hour of outward travel

They may be splits as well - but if you've looked and found none I'm not going to check.

No, that takes it up to £46.10.

Nothing like a bit of gratitude for having someone take the time to give you a suggestion (that usually works).
  • Hi,

Am looking for a cheap train ticket to Durham, leaving either on Fri 8th Oct or sat 9th Oct, and returning on Sun 10th Oct. Flexible on times - would prefer to travel from Reading but if cheaper to go from London then will do. Anyone any ideas of cheap routes or best place to split ticket?

    Any help appreciated.
    Kelly:)

    Thanks for the welcome.
Cheapest I've seen so far is £110.80 for an offpeak rtn from reading to durham with Cross county trains. Could go from Kings Cross for about £94 but as it would cost me about £25 to travel to Kings Cross, not really worth it! Not really sure how to do the ticket splitting thing as I dont really know what stations the train stops at so was hoping a regular traveller might be able to tell me.
Any help or advise you could give would be great :)
