I can't get the hang of this at all - I have such problems with times and numbers.
I'm travelling from Newcastle to Aberdeen on Tues, Aug 31 and return Thurs, Sep 2.
It's a work-related jaunt and I'm writing a travel feature afterwards, so thought it would be a great chance to reference split ticketing for my fellow bargain hunters.
Trouble is, I just can't make it work.
Newcastle to Alnmouth or Berwick works out v cheap, but the next leg of the journey onto Edinburgh then Aberdeen costs more than a standard return ticket for the whole journey.
Just me travelling, totally flexible with times, no rail card.
Can anyone help?DEBT FREE! Sep '08/£9,800 in Oct '06 :beer:0 -

Having said that, how about trying a split at Dundee?
You say you are totally flexible with times, so...
31 Aug...
Dep Newcastle 18:43, arr Dundee 21:40. Advance Single = £25.50.
Dep Dundee 22:08, arr Aberdeen 23:20. Advance Single = £6.20.
2 Sep...
Dep Aberdeen 17.36, arr Dundee 18:52. Advance Single = £9.50.
Dep Dundee 19:30, arr Newcastle 22:41. Advance Single = £19.60.
Total price = £60.80.
That compares with a Super Off Peak Return from Newcastle to Aberdeen at £85.70.

That particular deal is now closed.
You can still get cheap(ish) tickets on the East Coast website - possibly from £10 each way though I couldn't immediately see any that cheap on your dates0 -

Try your best to book in advance, 8 to 10 weeks is a good start, when you decide where and when, post those details back here on the forum and I'm sure the good people here will be more than happy to help.Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -

Some ideas - try London Midland to/from London then FGW from there
Try splitting at Birmingham - possibly at Cheltenham and Bristol as well.
You could also look at National Express coaches - there's a once a day through trip from Rugby to Brixham with a fare of £67 ish a head return - £20 off for disabled.0 -

Hello I want to take my 7 year old son to Hamleys in London.
The nearest station is Oxford Circus, we are thinking of going on Sunday morning and returning in the afternoon, no set times.
Can anyone help with suggesting a cheap way to get there and back please.
We dont have a rail card.
Many thanks
