I think you may have missed something. ;)

I used East Coast too and for the rest of August you are correct.

But if you set the date to a weekday in September, you will also see a 'Anytime Day Return with 16-25 Railcard at £12.00'.

A £12.00 minimum fare with a 16-25 railcard before 10am on Monday-Friday applies... except during July and August.

I didn't bother mentioning this because OP is a uni student, and I assumed he wouldn't start travelling in August.

Thanx for clearing that up, had a feeling it was something to do with a min fare policy, bit cheeky ain't it, the railcard fare more expensive that an Anytime ticket.

    Hiya,

Im a student at plymouth uni and have for the past year visted my boyfriend who is at uni in high wycombe. We have used national express funfares to london then a train to wycombe. Even though its relatively cheap this year we have less time to see each other so a 6hour journey isnt practical and trains are a lot quicker.

does anyone know a cheap split route from plymouth to london then onto wycombe

or even plymouth somewhere else wycombe?
ive looked quite a lot and not sure there is a cheap route.

    Thank you!!!

You could try splitting at Exeter St.D.
Often £3.00 Advance Singles available from Plymouth to Exeter.
Perhaps use Megatrain from Exeter to Waterloo... maybe £6.00 each way (maybe cheaper).
Perhaps Advance Single from Exeter StD to Maidenhead then bus to High Wycombe, or train from Maidenhead to Bourne End then bus to HW. Railcard may help.

    Certainly food for thought there.

Without dates it is difficult to be more specific.

    Edited to add...
There are some bargain Advance Singles from Plymouth to Banbury (via Reading and Oxford) from £16.00 each way. Off Peak Return from there to HW = £17.40. Knock a third off those with a railcard.
  • Hi,

I'm off to Manchester on Saturday 28th August, leaving from London anytime after midday and returning from Manchester after 9pm that same day. There will be three of us and the cheapest price I can find so far is £198 for all three. Can anyone help me out with anything cheaper?

    Thank you!

Dep London Euston 12:00, arr Manchester Pic 14:07. Advance Singles = £33.00.
Dep Man Pic 21:15, arr Euston 23:48. Advance Singles = £33:00.

Total return for all three of you = £66.00.

    Info from East Coast Trains.

    Where did you look?
  • I looked on Virgin Trains and National Rail. I just had a look on east Coast trains and I couldn't find how you got those advance singles prices of £33 each way - I'm coming up with something ridiculous as £162! Am I being totally stupid?

can anyone hint at the best places to split ticket sheffield-clacton. reallly wanted to avoid london after a disaterious trip with baby last year (lots of stairs no lifts!).

    we have a family railcard.

can go via ely going just short of £40 (BARGAIN!!) on 2nd november.

coming back on the 7th tho seems to be a different story.

    thanks in advance.

That's two adults and one child is it?

You're a little early for the cheap tickets for the Sunday.

Weekend Advance Singles are usually released a little later due to the possibility of Engineering Works.

This National Rail webpage may help.

No, you are not doing anything wrong. :o

    It is my mistake.
Sorry, I was looking at 28 September in error.

    Again... humble apologies. :o

Finding a train leaving Manchester for London after 20:35 is very difficult (if not impossible) on 28 August.

    p.s. don't buy those £162 singles.
£198.60 for three Off Peak Returns is a better bargain.
  • No need to apologise, just glad it wasn't me being totally useless at using a ticketing site. I've tried splitting the ticket from London to Milton Keynes and then Milton Keynes to Manchester. The first part of that journey works out about £33 but Milton Keynes to Manchester return or single is working out very expensive!
