Split Ticketing: Report successful routes here

Hiya,
Im a student at plymouth uni and have for the past year visted my boyfriend who is at uni in high wycombe. We have used national express funfares to london then a train to wycombe. Even though its relatively cheap this year we have less time to see each other so a 6hour journey isnt practical and trains are a lot quicker.
does anyone know a cheap split route from plymouth to london then onto wycombe
or even plymouth somewhere else wycombe?
ive looked quite a lot and not sure there is a cheap route.
Thank you!!!
You don't need to split to get cheap fares - for example on a random date in October £16.50 single for the whole journey (with railcard) including underground Paddington-Marylebone
Splitting is only going to work if those cheap fares are sold out but are still available for intermediate journeys.
You could try Exeter - megatrain Waterloo - High Wycombe but I think it will fail your speed requirement0 -

I'm off to Manchester on Saturday 28th August, leaving from London anytime after midday and returning from Manchester after 9pm that same day. There will be three of us and the cheapest price I can find so far is £198 for all three. Can anyone help me out with anything cheaper?
Thank you!
Try splitting at Crewe, I know the timings ain't great, especially if your off to watch Man U v West ham, but its does save you a lot of money;
London Euston to Crewe 13.07 £66 advance single
Crewe to London Euston 20.17 £33 advance single
Crewe to Manchester £33 Off Peak Day Return*
Total return for 3 £132
*note you can get the Crewe to Manchester ticket for £25.80 but you must travel up on a Virgin train, so its possible to do the journey for £124.80
I will leave you to make that decision but either way, on the way back make sure that you give yourself plenty of time to catch the London train from Crewe, in case of delays.

You could try splitting at Exeter St.D.
Often £3.00 Advance Singles available from Plymouth to Exeter.
Perhaps use from Exeter to Waterloo... maybe £6.00 each way (maybe cheaper).
Perhaps Advance Single from Exeter StD to Maidenhead then bus to High Wycombe, or train from Maidenhead to Bourne End then bus to HW. Railcard may help.
Certainly food for thought there.
Without dates it is difficult to be more specific.
Edited to add...
There are some bargain Advance Singles from Plymouth to Banbury (via Reading and Oxford) from £16.00 each way. Off Peak Return from there to HW = £17.40. Knock a third off those with a railcard.
Thankyou, the date would be around the 15th of October but Ill be doing the journey every month or so. Ive found that its pretty cheap to get to Swindon then Maidenhead then Eastbourne and then a bus, Wycombe is pretty hard to get to without going into London..
Theres also pretty cheap deals to get out of london on southwesttrains.co.uk, something like £8 to get back to plymouth.
I looked up megatrain too and it can be £1 train from exeter to waterloo so thank you very much for your help0 -
hi all, im looking to be travelling from Llandudno junction to nottingham once a week and was wondering if anyone has any cheep ticket suggestions; unfortunately i have to arrive before 10am so peak prices seem to apply
any help greatly appreciated0 -
hello- was hoping someone could help me- i'm looking to do this journey every weekend for the month of September. So far I've managed to find both ways at about £18 but given that a return is about £50 (with YP railcard) this doesn't seem to be like much of a saving?
Travelling Friday evening coming back Sunday evening- first journey on 17th Sept-19th Sept!
Any help would be much appreciated!

Strange one this;
Llandudno Jun to Nottingham Anytime Return £63.50 to arrive before 10.00
But splitting at Stoke on Trent like so;
Llandudno Jun to Stoke on Trent Off Peak Return £31.30 (which according to East Coast website is valid before 09.00)
Stoke on Trent to Nottingham Anytime Return £18.60
Total: £49.90 saving of £13.60
So catch the 05.34 change at Crewe and Derby arr 10.05Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -

I would say get booking advance singles now, as £14 saving per weekend does add up, however, just had a look and there are some bargain advance singles for your dates and times;
York to Edinburgh 17th Sept dep 18:33 arr 21:08 advance single £14.85
Edinburgh to York 19th Sept dep 20:15 arr 00:01 advance single £6.65*
Total: £21.50 (with 16-25 Railcard)

Hi not sure how to 'thank' you in the terms of these forums! but thanks so much for your help- had found that splitting at berwick-on-tweed cut the cost quite significantly given you can get a £30 off-peak return and then single to Edinburgh is only £3 from Berwick. Even better if they don't check your return on the way back!!0

Just make sure that the train you catch stops at Berwick-on-tweed, as that's a requirement of split ticketing.
But more importantly enjoy the savings you makeWhoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0
